IMO this has to be a big players coach. You cannot have another Justice or Barbee. Nothing against them, just not the type of coach you need to replace KP. KP was the "bridge" between Cal and the players from the sounds of it. Needs to be a stellar hire.

Good luck to him but this is Kentucky and cal is still the head coach and one of the best of all time as a head coach and a recruiter,I think the program will be fine

I wouldn't mind bringing Orlando Antigua back. I've also heard Bruiser Flints name being mentioned.

This might be a good move for Coach Payne and UK. NBA coaches, especially lately in New York, usually don't last long. Let him serve as assistant with the Knicks for a couple of years, then find a head coaching gig somewhere. This will give him head coaching experience to see if he has what it takes to replace Cal down the road. I don't think he was ever going to be the next head coach at UK unless he left first. UK will not hire a coach that does not have successful head coaching experience. I think this is the best route for him to get that experience to have a chance at Cals seat once he leaves.

Someone mentioned this in HOB, but Marcus Camby sounds interesting.

(not mentioned with any knowledge, but just a suggestion)

EDIT: make a noise and hire two NBA names, if you ask me.

Huge loss for UK. Cal absolutely cannot replace him with Flint or any other former friend type guy. Needs to make a splash with a legit hire.

Good for Kenny, he knows Cal isn't retiring soon and that an Asst. In the NBA will help with coaching and recruiting if he is offered the HC gig once Cal hangs it up.

I think any coach that's on the younger side and has a lot of connections from NBA playing days would be a great hire. Penny is getting recruits simply because he's.. well, Penny, and he's young, and he's black.. Marcus Camby would give us that.

Cal and Kenny seem to be real close. You have to think they have discussed this at length and KP gave Cal plenty of heads up. I'm sure Cal already has been in talks with his main target or targets to replace KP and has the new guy already lined up.
Will this open position need to be posted for two weeks like past positions since UK is a state university so this is a state job? If so, this will be a long couple of weeks with all sorts of rumors.

We can ask Tubby or Rick to take a seat by Cal. Hell Billy G is open to coming back. Lol

If Cal brings un Flint, he deserves the criticism that comes as a result of having Barbee, Robic and Flint on the same staff. Isn't Robic already playing the role of Tom Hagan for Cal? Now he'll have three of those guys?

It's really unbelievable. Cal is just helping friends at this point instead of getting the best people for the job. For a program like UK to have such a weak and boring staff is pretty amazing.

Doesn't Orlando Antigua have some baggage from his stint at South Florida?
People keep saying that but who freakin cares? Coaches have been caught on wire tap discussing paying players. Coaches have been caught red handed paying them and they are still coaching and the players are still playing. Screw taking the high road. Get the guy who will get the damn job done.

Offer Mike Miller an additonal million over what he was making at Memphis.. If not him, then offer whoever the top 5 assistants are the same thing. Time to flex our muscle.

Just please no "friendship"-type hires.
Just say no to anything you recommend.
