Didn't Cignetti go 11-1 last year? Unless I missed something. Still, he and his staff WAY better than Rhule and his guys.

If the athletic department truly cared they would fire Rhule after the season(baring a miraculous late season comeback). Making him gut his staff is reminiscent of Frost’s last year. It’s simply a lost cause.
It’s clear as day to me that Rhule is not gonna get it done here.

He deserved to be fired 7 games into season 2? Lofl. Sure bud.
No lil Jon. At the end of the year? If this season ends like last year. Yes. Will it happen? No. I will actually back off the Rhule hate if he actually makes changes after this year. Starting with Satt then uncle Donny and the child Wr coach. And the worthless special teams coach. But I will be shocked if he does because he will be contactoraly protected.

Cignetti flipped his roster in 1 year. I think we can expect Rhule to flip his in 2-3 years. Next year is big for Rhule.
He's 1.5 years in with a senior laden team. His contract ensures he'll be here for a while but he's going to have to shake things up to have a chance of improvement.

People need to stop thinking that money matters. If the boosters want Rhule gone, they will pony up.

I don't think they will but I do think it is clear that it is totally possible to not take 3 years to "build" a team.

He's got a lot of work ahead to make it a three year turn around.

It is really surprising. I really thought we were going to give their offense trouble. Maybe we will beat somebody we’re not supposed to be this year. We certainly weren’t supposed to lose this one this bad.

DR has looked like a true freshman the last couple of weeks. I think he’s better than he is showing. Hard for the average fan to know what the problem is. Only thing I can say is that he doesn’t try and get the first down with his feet if he doesn’t see anything open.

I agree...

I was never sold on him as a hire and I think Trev sort of fell for this idea of "building"...

NU has more NIL money they most schools, especially in the Big Ten and they need to hire a no none sense cutthroat coach.

IU’s season isn’t over. Out putridity doesn’t make them a great team. They may end up being that but they’ve got some tough games yet.

I said early on that I wouldn’t have complained about a no name up and comer from Northeastern Directional U that nobody has ever heard of. Cignetti is kind of that guy. Our fan base and donors demand splash hires hence we ended up with a guy like Callahan and now Rhule. We’ll see if Rhule can make the adjustments he needs to succeed.

a lot of people here are forgetting Rhule is a country music fan who has said the word "fullback" in press conferences at least a half dozen times

his wife owns a small business in NE! he is One Of Us!

pretty rude, he seems like he's giving it his best - even said he fell asleep in his office this week! (ignore the fact that this happened right after he arrived)

Right??? He was clearly given the talking points when he started.

I am trying to think who I would want as the next HC and no names are coming to mind. But I do know that if this season plays out super lame...I am going to be the thrilled if they start searching.

It’s too early. Everyone has their heads up their *** in anger right now. Not much level headed thinking and commenting going on right now.
Keep loving the continued failures. You should probably find an offense identity Satt

This is a "show me" business and every week matters.

Troy better have a list. Just like the Bama AD sure as hell has a list. Because they are about 2 plays away from falling apart.

NU needs to beat UCLA, Wisconsin and Iowa. Period. These are not tall tasks.

also - before anyone says it:

Rhule getting laughed out of the NFL (literally) is not at all a reflection on his ability to coach COLLEGE football

so if anyone is thinking this, don't bother posting it!

We need to fire Foley, Satt, Raiola, and the WR coach. We can't fire Raiola bc we're married to the QB.
Then slide him over as the QB coach and go hire a real offensive line coach. It's not like the Raiola's aren't spending on the best QB coach money can buy. Donovan can just be the lame duck on staff.

If you are going to preach patience in our rebuild process, don’t get embarrassed on national TV by a team with a 1st year HC who

1. Went 3-9 last year
2. Lesser recruiting rankings
3. Lower commitment to football and NIL.

Sure, they have 14 starters who transferred in, but 9 of them came from James Madison.

Indiana is whooping our *** because they have much better coaching and their players want it more
This assessment is spot on. Trust me, I am not advocating to find another head coach…but we just got outcoached in a major way. If nothing else,
I was hopeful we would come out during the second half and fight - but we didn’t. In a world where recruits see everything, they just watched us get embarrassed. That goes down as one of most humiliating losses I have personally watched. This was not a talent gap issue, this was a coaching issue.

Rhule will get at least four years. You always get extra time to save yourself with new coordinators until there is no one else left to blame except the coach himself.

Rhule will get way more time than deserved because of the buyout. He will get one shot this off season to make changes. We will see how he handles it. Every offensive coach needs to go. But he failed hiring these coaches. He will fail hiring replacements. He is nothing more than a greasy salesman.

I would’ve agreed with you before yesterday, since yesterday’s terrible performance by both the coaches and players the honeymoon is over he’ll get one more year, upon sleeping on yesterday’s performance that was the most embarrassing performance since probably during Riley’s last season or Georgia southern, and I really getting tired of hearing we had a good week of practice I didn’t see this coming! that was frost’s excuse for 4 plus years. I’m 50/50 on weather I’m going to watch the game against OSU

I know people bring up Brett...but he is going to Iowa and it would not shock me if that is already pretty close to a done deal.

KF is done, their DC that some of you love even though he blows too, is retiring when KF is forced out. I bet BB has that gig lined up.

Going to be a long couple of weeks with fans and the team. The IU team is good. Watching them they do a ton right. They will be a factor later in the season it appears.

NU needs better: coaching, players, focus, desire, bus drivers, water, and a 1,000,000 other things that will be said. This game hurts the rep and the psyche. Ohio State game looks much less likely to win for sure. The remaining games, who knows in this moment.

Still see an 8-4 season as possible. Steps forward and steps back. Not easy to fire people that are friends but sometimes it’s needed.

Staff changes and continued upgrades across the board are needed. Throwing money at football problems works as well as throwing money at problems in education. Use the NIL money to find guys that want to be at the school, not just for the bag. Coaches who will teach and do the little things that make the game more simple for the players to play fast.
8-4 is extremely unlikely at this point.

The O line was not the problem Saturday. A refusal to commit to the run and our WRs inability to get open were much bigger problems. Play calling was ridiculous. WAY more concerning for me was our defensive collapse. If people want to fire someone based on this game TW should be first in line.

One could argue that the defense has been propping this offense up for so long that they finally had a breakdown. The offense has to hold up its end of the bargain. it takes off entire quarters and halves. Unacceptable.

There’s no excuse for the product TW put on the field. IU scored TDs on 2 of their first 3 possessions and did it easily. We made IU’s offensive backups look like All Americans in the second half. Putrid.

And that is a problem because those teams suck.
I wouldn’t say they suck. The only team that really sucks is Purdue and we struggled with them. Wisconsin is taking care of business as of late. Iowa isn’t the least bit afraid of us. They will challenge us to a fight. The furthest I’m going to go is to say we can win those games, not that we should. it’s been a long time since we rolled in and took care of business against someone on our level. We’re about to find out if Rhule can coach.
