I get it, totally understandable. But for people that have moved to England or Vietnam, why the infatuation with seats in the stands in Evanston. I'm not losing sleep over it and I'm a STH who lives in Chicago. I would think you would be happy for the team's success.
You get the internet and streaming in England, Vietnam, the Catskills and Orland Park. Many people seem to dislike the empty seats while they watch at home. I ventured out if my seats to meet and old work buddy and grab a beer. There are plenty of spots to do this and watch the game either from the concourse or on one of the TV’s. We were up 20+ points! IMO, anyone that hasn’t been to the stadium has no concept of how easy it is to view the game WITHOUT being in your seat.

When I went, I tried to be at my seat anytime I wasn’t using the loo or at the bar.

Can I ask how you are watching the games in England? Would using the VPN to fake out the location work? Will be in Euroland traveling for 2 weeks soon.

While I stuck to my seats, I went to get a nibble and saw Loft Club bar jammed.

I was also watching on TV, from the Cotswolds. He lives in Vietnam. Not all of us can easily get to the stadium.
Where in Vietname. We have a condo in HCMC. Watched the 1st round NCAA game against Florida Atlantic with a few alums in HCM.

I have a peacock subscription so the past two weeks were easy since I still subscribe. I use ExpressVPN. The Oregon game is also Peacock. Iowa not yet announced. Last year I bought the Roku day pass to watch through other apps, but of course if you have a tv subscription already such as YouTube TV even easier. Sometimes iPad works and sometimes I need to use laptop.

Once again I was there with my two sons, three grandsons and we had a blast! Sat in section 209 which were amazing seats watching Komolafa coming toward us, Wagoner’s catch, and Chiles putting the exclamation point on the day!
I saw a ton of purple, it was loud, my two 2️⃣ older grandsons thought the entrance of the team was out of this world.
if…no, after we beat the ducklings and tOSU, I promise you the place will be rocking for the game against Iowa and the team down south!
A victory over OSU, and the place will be truly rocking after that!!!! Hopefully the Illinois game will be packed!!!!

They may have it figured out next year, but prices rarely go down for something like this. I cannot imagine a STH rap calling and saying good news. We are cutting your price by twenty five percent
Supposedly something like 3/4s of the ticket price is donation built into the price, While the ticket price might not be cut, I can see the required donation come down, It is what they did at Welsch Ryan after a couple years

My son will get back to you either here online or with a private message. We should get you set up. (97% chance but sadly not 100%).

It just blows my mind that the world has turned so much that Saigon is known as HCMC, it has a population of 14 mil and US business people - and US people of all types - have condos there. I still remember all the body bags and praying to stay in my school to avoid being drafted. Not judging. I am delighted that these changes have happened.

I think everything encapsulated on this thread can be equally true:
  • I watch the Cats on TV because I live in New York, not Chicago
  • I don't like seeing the empty seats on TV, even if it just means that people are socializing on the concourse (like, this is college football, you're supposed to be in the stands making noise on third down)
  • I do think the prices at New Ryan Field are misaligned with the target audience (i.e. the number of die hard Cats fans is relatively small and they're spread out around the nation; not that many people want to pay $100+ for NU football)
  • AND it's ultimately not the end of the world, because as many commentators have pointed out, it has always been the case in NU history (particularly recent NU history) that attendance varies quite a bit depending on the team's success and the opponent on any given weekend.

Take the train to Heathrow, United to O'Hare, EL or Metra to Central , short walk to NRF/-problem solved. It is harder to get there from SC

The word of mouth among casual fans in Chicago is really something to behold. Since opening, I've been stopped by like a dozen people when wearing my NU gear, including several bartenders, who ask if Im aware of the New Ryan Field and whether ive been. Hopefully just a matter of time before these casual fans take the opportunity to visit and start attending on the regular. Maybe the Bears moving to Indiana will make the Cats Chicago's team
That is an interesting thought. Football fans who would like to see a live game may choose Ryan field especially the Northside who would have a pretty long drive to Indiana and might have a slight interest in NU.

Wait, you were watching on TV?? File this under "you can't make this stuff up". Someone watching on TV complaining about the lack of people in the stands.
Bro. I live in Florida now and still come back for 2-3 games per heat. Had season at the ORF for 14 years. Pipe down. It’s a sad fact but our fans are soft.

The Bears aren’t moving to Indiana LOL. It’s pure leverage.

So why couldn’t I get any decent ticket to Ball State for less than $125? I thought I hit a pretty good deal when I got tickets in Spartan Stadium for $30.
