"Part-varsity" schedules

I'm seeing some signs of teams that only intend to play one or two varsity games this year, and otherwise play JV. A few cases:

- Jones Prep is scheduled to play Ridgewood in Week 2, which has been to my knowledge their only listed varsity game. I stumbled on their Hudl page today (https://fan.hudl.com/usa/il/chicago...llege-prep/team/930386/boys-varsity-football/), which lists Week 1 at Hersey on Saturday (pretty sure that's not happening at any level), Week 2 at Ridgewood on Friday (matches Ridgewood's site), and six other games on Tuesdays. One of those is against Farragut, who are not playing varsity to my knowledge.
- Catalyst-Maria is scheduled to play at Westmont in Week 1, which again is the only varsity game I can find for them. On Maxpreps (https://www.maxpreps.com/il/chicago/catalyst-maria-wolves/football/schedule/), they have four other games listed, all of which are again on Tuesdays. One's against Harlan, who I also suspect isn't playing varsity this year.

Anyone have any insight about this? I've heard of teams having to do this mid-season because of low numbers, etc., but never apparently pre-planned.

This is Jones first season playing football at all, so this would make sense.

Im shocked to hear that Catalyst Maria even has a football team, so this checks out as well.

CPS usually tries to have its first-year programs play a year of JV first before playing on the varsity level. Makes sense with Jones

Which makes sense - but why are they purportedly playing just one game of varsity? If I were at the IHSA, I would be having some conversations about whether those games, and presumably wins, count for playoff purposes.

I'd wait until official IHSA schedule comes out.
