He actually made a ton of sense to me. If you don't like people breaking stories, quit reading breaking stories.

I'm fine with him breaking a story. But the pair of tweets making sure everyone knew that he broke it last week despite Malik's statements were self-serving and pathetic. Just know that you did a good job. You don't have to try and make sure everyone else knows you did a good job. I knew he had reported that earlier in the week. That was going to stick with me. Now what will stick with me is that reported it and then got his panties in a twist about it.

Gonna have to agree with him, mostly. Your job as a reporter to get the scoop, and it sounds as if it was just handed to him. So I don't blame him for reporting even though he came off a little like a douche. The blame should come from the person who gave him the story. I'd put my money on someone from an opposing team.

He basically said that's his job and he is not sorry, that's how he pays the bills, etc...

My problem is not his reporting. However, when he tweeted that Malik was dishonest, he didn't have those facts. Just because he cancelled his visits with other teams, did not mean that he wasn't still considering them. Malik could have thought that he had all the facts that he needed to make his decision and didn't need anymore "noise". That may or may not be true, but Parrish had no way of knowing if that was the case when he tweeted his "dishonest" comment. He comes off like a petty ******* as many have said.

Again, people

aren't mad (at least not me) at him for breaking a story. People are mad at him for calling some kid a liar, essentially.

It's not about what he reported. It's about him calling out the kid as a liar for simply trying to keep things under wraps until he was ready to announce.

Oh I agree. He had the same talking point about that which was essentially the same as his first. His word and sources are how he makes his living. Or something to that effect. He still comes off like a douche.

This has to happen with literally every guy that has a hat ceremony right?

Local athlete: I'm announcing my decision Friday at noon

reporter: hey local athlete, sounds like all signed point to you attending xyz university.

athlete: tune in Friday and find out.

friday at noon...

athlete: happy to be attending xyz u next year

reporter: hey local athlete, you're pretty dishonest in answering my questions Wednesday afternoon!

seriously...what's parishes deal here? Comes across as a bitter little d bag.

Agree. Parrish would be better off just tooting his own horn and saying "I told you so two days ago!", instead of calling out Malik as a liar. The kid wanted his day in the sun to make his announcement, so he downplayed the early reports. Nothing wrong with the early reporting, or with Malik's denials.

The thing about it is that he is hurting his own career. You think any another high schoolers will ever leak any information to him ever again?? I don't think so. If I was a highly recruited athlete, or any athlete for that matter (yes I know a stretch for anyone that knows me), I would stay away from Parrish.

It is his job to break stories. And when Malik announced he didn't have to do anything except sit back and say nothing. Everybody knows that Malik obviously had his mind made up earlier this week, but he hadn't committed and was free to change his mind at any moment. To call him a liar is just dumb and childish and makes me lose a lot of respect.

Cross made a good point this afternoon. The average sports fan doesn't really give a flying 17 who breaks a story and will forget who broke it almost immediately afterward. It is really just an ego thing among media members themselves to have to be the first to break a story.

In addition to this

we're dealing with an 18-year-old here and family man that is twice Malik's age. Regardless of who was right, wrong, or dishonest, take the high road Gary

He can defend it however he wants, but that was bush league

Yeah, I don't fault him for breaking the story, but to come out yesterday and

call Malik a liar just shows what kind of person he is.

Hell, on his Wednesday radio show when he was regurgitating his article he mentioned several times that you should not count out Calipari flipping him at the last minute.

Yesterday he was saying that because Malik had cancelled further visits on Wednesday it proved he had made a final decision. While it might infer that a decision had been made, it does not prove it. Malik has been recruited for 3 years and has heard each coach's pitch a hundred times - it is certainly possible that Malik wanted a couple days of quiet time to reflect on his options.

He could have given himself a pat on the back yesterday for being right on Wednesday without using terms such as "dishonest" or "liar". No matter how strong his suspicions were, he didn't absolutely know what the young man was thinking.

The info must have come from calipari. Think about it:
1. It diminishes the kid's moment in the spotlight, as retribution
2. There is a 1% chance that it will cause the kid to change his mind
