In 6 NFL seasons (and 3 teams), he's earned a total of $2,979,284.

Roughly $500,000 per year; not too shabby.
I thought the minimum was about $800,000 a year. The minimum was $500,000 in Hesse's first year. you would think he would average more than that

An since he was in the league for 5+ years he gets a full pension I believe

from a quick google search:

The NFL's Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle NFL Player Retirement Plan ensures that players are financially supported long after their playing days are over. Players become fully vested in the plan after 3 years on active roster or injured reserve. The benefit amount is then based on the number of credited seasons played.

$500K a year - about what a third string RB at Alabama gets. Crazy, but frankly will keep some guys in college.

His tip pick and TD against Nebraska was awesome. I won't forget that play.

I was there - it happened right in front of me. It was a glorious season. Cold that day but I had plenty of fuel

Not bad for a product undersized DE in college. Remember when Epenesa was a frosh and everyone wanted AJ to start and his dad eppy spoke about it. Saying how AJ had lot to learn and had a guy like Hesse who he could learn from and play the right way. Spoke volumes. Fact that he was able to last that long while making a position switch is pretty remarkable. Similar to Matt Nelson going to OL and hanging around league much longer than any one expected.
