Y'all crack me up!! Sheesh...after the 2012 title game, we returned 5 points a game...Kyle Wiltjer, Jarrod Polson and Twanny Beckham...that's it. I know, we lost 11 games, then lost in the first round of the NIT. Guess what, Ryan Harrow was horrible, we had to start a walk on point guard. Guess what else, Nerlens Noel blew his knee out...when he did we were 17-6, we lost 5 of our last 9 games without him. There is no comparison between that team and this one... be honest...what looks better to you.

Polson/Harrow/Goodwin/Beckham/Mays
or
Green/Diallo/Alexander... and possibly Baker and/or Smith?

Noel(for part of the season)/ Cauley-Stein/ Wiltjer/ Poythress
or
Richards/Washington/Vanderbilt,Gabriel, SKJ, Humphries if he stays, Adabeyo if he returns, possibly Bamba and/or Knox, Cam Johnson maybe.

Green > Polson
Diallo > Goodwin
Alexander > Harrow
Bamba = Noel
Richards > CauleyStein
Washington > Poythress
Vanderbilt = Wiltjer
Gabriel > Nobody
SKJ > Nobody

Knox/Baker would make this team WAY better than the 2012/2013 team...and really, if Noel doesn't blow out his knee, no way do we lose 10 games, and..we would have made the NCAA tourney.
Harrow was BAD
Polson was decent at best
Goodwin was out of control...
Poythress was not good as a freshman
Noel blew his knee out
Wiltjer averaged 10.2 and 4.2, but on defense he got destroyed.
Mays was a pretty good find.
We lost 11 games....

I will take next years team over that 2012-2013 team any day of the week, especially if we add Bamba, and either Smith or Baker. Anything after that (Knox) would just be icing.

Pure conjecture and lousy conjecture at that

We were trending up when Noel went down.

Noel's game was coming together.

However, after his injury...even Coach Cal was probably like "**** this ****..."

Just a lousy comparison. Difference being that all the underclassmen who left in 2012 were actually drafted. Guys are leaving this year who will be lucky if they get invited to a fall camp.

We had just re-entered the top 25 before Noel got hurt.

We were up to 16 in Kenpom, and were top 25 in both offense and defense.

I believe we had lost earlier in the week. We were going to drop IIRC.

We will be very good. We may not win the title but if they buy into Cal before SEC play then we will be a top 5 team.

Just get them to buy in and learn from what Cal wants. Cal has his work cut out but these players need to understand he can get them to where we and they want to go.

Except that the comparison isn't the guys who left vs the guys who are leaving, the comparison is about the teams coming in. Im not sure how you got confused.

Nah, I have seen them all play at the same level.
My Comparison is based on for example, the Willie Cauley-Stein I saw playing in his senior year of high school, vs the Nick Richards I saw playing in his senior year of high school, Richards is much better, he has more tools, He actually shoots and makes baskets from 8 feet out, he has a hook shot... what I saw Willie Cauley-stein do in high school was dunk on 6'4 white guys. Willie was a guy who obviously was going to have to develop into a basketball player in college, NIck Richards is already a basketball player. That's not conjecture, that's what I saw when these players were/are coming out of high school into college.

"Lousy", is what your 7 word response was, if you'd like to discuss ANY player vs Player comparison I made, we can do that, I can tell you what I am basing my evaluation on. If you want to waste your time and hit the reply button and type "wrong", lol...you can save it.

No we hadn't, Noel got hurt in the Florida game...Kentucky was on a 5 game winning streak prior to that game, including a 13 point win @ 16th ranked Ole Miss. Noel getting hurt was a HUGE blow to a team on an up trend, not just by not having him on the court, it was a blow to moral as well, 4 days later that team lost to Tennessee by 30 points, a 30 point loss to a team UK had beat by 10 a month earlier. Tennessee out rebounded us 39-21 in that blow out, With Nerlens Noel in the earlier game we had a 34-30 advantage in rebounds.. Noel Killed Tennessee, 12 pts, 9 boards, 6 blocks, and 4 steals... the remaining games, we don't lose to Georgia or Arkansas had Noel not gotten hurt, their big men destroyed us without Nerlens, Powell and Clarke combined for 29 points and 21 boards for Arkansas against Willie.. they don't get that with Nerlens out there grabbing boards and blocking shots.

Not sure why people don't understand how bad UK REALLY got without Nerlens, not only did the guy nearly average a double double Points/Rebounds... he also averaged nearly 5 blocks a game, not to mention he had 50 steals in 23.5 games

With Nerlens Noel, UK likely finishes with 8 or 9 losses, an 8 loss team with a top 75 SOS, is hardly NIT bound.

Exactly right.

UK lost Noel during the Florida game (when they were way behind, so they were losing that game regardless). With him, there's no way they close out the regular season going only 4-3, then lose in the 1st round of the SEC Tournament. With Noel, that team likely finishes 23-8, 14-4 in the conference, then wins at least 1-2 SEC Tourney games, and goes into the NCAA Tourney seeded anywhere from 5-9, depending on the details.

We lost Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe, Orton, and Patterson, then made it a round further the next season.

No one really knows how a season will play out (but having a lot of talent helps, obviously).

That's right it was the Florida game we were going to lose not the game prior.
