If they lose it's because guys who shoot over 80% from the line keep missing FT's!

...and Iowa wins!

Locals schools not fairing well either (and I don't include Cuse/Connie as "local").

Worst conference performance in history of NCAA tournament? Cal, Arizona, USC, Colorado, Oregon State ALL lose in the 1st round and do so to lower-seeded teams. With Oregon yet to play ONLY Utah has advanced thus far. ‪#‎BADPAC‬‪#‎Overrated‬

Do remember that the Pac-12 was underdog in 4 of those 5 games and the only team that was a favorite (Cal) was missing two of their top 5 players.

I agree with Nuts on this one. PAC 12 had a very bad opening round and there is no way around it.

Michigan State's epic fail and Purdue's collapse in last 3 minutes were far more noteworthy than the 5 cumulative losses by the PAC 12 teams. Maryland struggled, Wisconsin looked lousy and was lucky to win and Michigan is in the process of blowing a 12 point halftime lead. Neither conference had a good opening round.

Big 10 is 4-3 while Pac 10 is 2-5 so clearly one conference is doing worse than the other. Big 12 is only 3-4

Iowa won on a gift. I would not be pushing the Pac 12 bashing. Cal 's best player out. MSU and Purdue losses epic. Michigan folding to ND.

The Pac12 teams seemed to be over-seeded, perhaps the NCAA's way of trying to compensate from the usual criticism coming from the West Coast about "East Coast bias."

But perhaps the "worst performance" award should go the SEC, for what was essentially a "no-show" with only two of its 14 teams in the tournament at all, though both won their opening games against mid-major competition. That is pretty bad for a group of schools having the resources they do. And they don't even field a wrestling conference, which is why Mizzou has to participate in the MAC for that sport.

And I think the B1G is 5-3, counting Michigan's win in the opening round against another #11 seed.

B1G went 4-3 in the 1st round (Maryland, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana)
PAC went 2-5 (Utah and Oregon)

Sorry guys but the B1G performed better in the 1st round. I'm not talking point spreads, I'm talking straight-up W's and L's, and ALL 5 of the PAC's losses were to lower-seeded teams. There have probably been as bad/worse 1st rounds for a conference with 5+ teams but it's the "losing to lower-seeded teams" thing I'm focusing on I guess, hence, this thread.

Don't get me wrong, the B1G has NOT looked good, but that wasn't the premise of my thread. Thank you.

The Pac 12 has been horrific. They will get one school to the sweet 16. Most if not all the losing teams were overseeded

Did not perform well at all but Cal's leading scorer injured pre game. B1G given high seeds, upsets, and point differential may actually have been worst of all.

Um sorry the Big 10 got 3 schoola in the sweet 16 while Pac 10 barely scraped their one seed in. And as bad as Iowa's loss was, Utah was an embarrassment

The real disappointment for the B1G in this tourney was the very uncharacteristic poor play of MSU against MTSU. People were suggesting that MTSU was way underseeded but they must have looked like a 15 seed yesterday in their loss to the Orange.

The SEC and Pac12 both scrape their way in to the Sweet 16 with close wins over teams from non-power conferences (UNI and St. Joes). The B12 and B1G have 3 teams each still alive. The real disappointment has been seeing the ACC do so well, though they were the beneficiaries of high seeds, for the most part, and relatively poor play by their opponents. Duke lucked out with Yale's upset in the first round. Yale is a good Ivy League team but to expect them to knock off two ranked P5 teams in a row was too much to wish for.

have to credit the ACC, they performed, yes they had to play Yale and Middle Tennessee and Wichita and Butler and Providence and SF Austin...interesting all 2nd round opponents were not from the power 5 conferences..they still got 6 in

you are right...the Big 10 took a hit with the Michigan State implosion on day 1 but getting 3 in the Sweet 16 negates that negativity'

Just Gonzaga and Villanova as the only non football schools in the Sweet 16. The Big East with just one Sweet 16 school is going to have to do better as it fights its perception problem. Its wasnt a terrible tourney for the BE though, they got 4 first round wins so thats pretty good overall

Purdue was disappointing. Iowa getting embarrassed was bad. MSU was an epic loss which will be remembered long after PAC 12's performance. Cal's best player was hurt. USC lost a heartbreaker to Providence. Gonzaga(Weak bubble right? Not!) was far better than anyone anticipated.. Arizona was head scratching but again weak bubble right? (Wichita State Not!)

Real story is how good the ACC has been with a 10-1 record with only a loss to Wisc.

Sweet 16

Pac 10 1
Big 10 3

end of discussion really. If you want to argue minutae fine but objectively one conference did horrific with only 2 schools winning the first round and only one in the Sweet 16, they had 7 bids.
