If someone that hasn't really produced anything in the last 2 years is really set to receive $1.3MM then this thing is even nuttier than I thought...and I thought it was getting nuts! 
If Freeman wants to play beyond college, then this is his last opportunity. It may be sufficient incentive for him to put in the effort. The NIL money itself obviously isn't.

Freeman would have been over paid with NIL if he got a $100 gift card to Wig & Pen from Auburn. And I love their pizza.
These reports are getting more and more ridiculous. I dont believe them anymore. There is NFW he was paid a straight 1.3 million for one year and no conditions.
I feel for anyone having health issues, but find it hard to believe someone making the money Seibert was is in financial stress.

I feel for the guy, but why should others be paying for his medical expenses?
Because bad **** happens to people? And they shouldn’t be forced to owe a million bucks when you have a heart attack?
Could be why it was set up as optional rather than mandatory? You have a choice. You may not want to look at the programs out there and see how many people we are paying medical expenses for.
I won’t lie … I had a similar thought. But then I remembered that I have no idea what is going on in his family, or what other financial situations are at play. And I’m free to ignore his GoFundMe campaign if I so choose.
That said, looking at the millions of dollars now being raked in by college athletes, some of whom can’t even dribble a basketball for more than two seconds without being sidelined for months with an injured finger, it seems clear that as a society we are not allocating financial resources in a particularly efficient manner.
The reality is that if Folgueiras is worth $3.5 million than $1.3 for Freeman sounds about right.

The irrationality of the portal is what’s perplexing. Bench players averaging a few points per game are pulling in millions. In any real business, that’s like promoting your worst performers based on “potential” alone. But here? If you’re 7 foot and have a pulse, welcome to your economy.
Owen Freeman is not getting a one year flat 1.4 million just to sign and play with Auburn. The agents / players inflate numbers to create demand. The schools inflate to help fund raising.
Maybe the plan is that will allow him to not play any defense…aka, his usual game!

Does he not have insurance? If not, that’s his fault. If he does, then the family shouldn’t be looking for handouts.
Nothing against Mr. Seibert. I hope he recovers. My rant is more about people who start gofundme’s to get other people to pay their financial obligations.
Have you ever had a life changing injury or accident? There’s a lot of uncertainty and things that are not paid for even with good insurance.
No, but I know people who have, and they didn’t go begging to other people to bail them out. What makes Seibert more special than millions of others who are facing similar hardship and won’t be getting help from others?

If a co-worker ends up in the hospital, and someone at the office passes around a get-well card, and asks everyone to chip in a few bucks, I do so, no questions asked. Usually $5 bucks or so. I don't care what the person is making ... it's a decent thing to do. That's what this GoFundMe thing for Al Seibert seems like to me -- a chance for folks who know him -- many who likely live around the country -- to show they care. I don't know that it was ever intended to become a major crowd-sourcing thing.
I understand the skepticism. That was my initial reaction, too. I even looked up Seibert's salary at Iowa, and found out he made a little over $110K in 2020. I even started thinking about starting a thread bitching about it on this message board. But then I asked myself. "Am I the a$$hole?" And I think the answer was kind of, "yes." At the end of the day, none of us knows what any family is going through or what their financial situation is. And if you don't want to contribute to Al's GoFundMe, you don't have to. It's not like there are posters out there claiming you're not a "true fan" if you don't. While my thoughts are with the guy, I personally have no intention of donating.
But all that said, I do look at this situation against the backdrop of what these college athletes are taking home today. A guy like Owen Freemen, who has now had completely unproductive seasons at two straight schools, and he is a millionaire to show for it. And many others make far more than Owen, some of whom who contribute little to society, aside from putting a ball through a hoop. Yet sports fans in their fanaticism are lining up to throw money at them ... eager to prove their fandom by emptying their wallets for guys who do little to give back, and to guys who will jump ship at a moment's notice for someone else willing to pay more.
It's a F'd up system, man.

It already has to my wife and my daughter. It's called being prepared as much as possible.
Why pay medical bills for an older guy. He can die in debt and the bills will be forgotten. If this was a young family then it would be different.
