When we have to replace Oweh next season will pope go in the direction of a plug and play portal replacement, or will he try to stick chandler in that role and hope he grows
Gonna be tough, Oweh has scored double digit points in 61 of 64 career games at Kentucky. Pretty remarkable. He also now hold the record for most 20 point games in a season breaking Antonio Reeves 19 games his last season, this year.

Chandler is going to have a lot of options in the free agency. I don’t know why it’s assumed hes back. This year was not a good one and he’s going to have a lot of teams come calling. I would mint be surprised if UNC, Duke, Kansas, etc some are in the mix. If not those then BYU and some really good programs will likely make a pitch. The assumption that Chandler isn’t going anywhere is really shows a misunderstanding about the current landscape. Chandler is an all American in the making. People are going to make a pitch. And I don’t trust Mark to be able to out recruit those, which is exactly what he’ll have to do. Hopefully Chandler leans more toward loyalty to Mark and Kentucky than seeing dollar signs and a new start. But I don’t know, there’s been times Chandler really didn’t look happy to me. But you also can’t go by that.
Yeah we need to make sure he is back. That is a huge recruitment.

I can see that but overly relying on oweh means done deal to me early. I think in the tournament a hot chandler who gets fed is going to be the difference. Oweh penetrates well but he’s still not great at finishing. Although he has finally been finishing better, so maybe. Chandler for 48% from 3, 27 ppg brings a final four. Only way I see it coming. I’m going deep, let it fly and start praying. Video game time.
You have some valid thoughts here. But they're not thoughts about team construction, which is what we're talking about. Try fielding a team without someone like Otega Oweh penetrating and hitting 53% from 2 and see how well Chandler does when the defense comes out and swarms him. Great guy, great team piece. Not built to replace Oweh.

Yea Chandler isn’t built to handle that. I see where you’re going. I just wish Oweh realized that you don’t have to score just because you penetrate. There’s also, the pass thing? I’ve never seen a more frustrating player to me than Oweh. Built to cause major damage on a college floor, getting really, really good. The handles and the finishing just make me go insane. The inability to see the floor around him….Oweh just gets tunnel vision. Oweh to me has some low BB IQ, I just don’t think he understands the game well.

I spent a few games counting how many times he and Aberdeen left Chandler wide open and I had to stop at a certain point. Couldn’t handle it anymore. lol. I don’t know if Pope doesn’t explain it or they just ignore it when he does. The team does look a lot better since last week. It’s a start.

Chandler will have options but so will virtually every decent player in the country! BYU would be about the only team that would concern me even a little bit, being Morman, but actually,I feel better about Chandler coming back than maybe anyone else on our roster, as long as Pope is here. And we all know Pope is our coach next season. Right?

To the point, Chandler and Oweh are very different players. We need to bring in someone else to replace Oweh.

Pope is a players coach. He catches hell on here for it but he's also why we will retain players better than a lot of other coaches.

I doubt any of the bigger programs will go after him, but it wouldn’t shock me if BYU sent him an offer he cannot refuse. That would suck

Chandler is testing the waters at times driving to the basket, but he’ll never be a power driver like Oweh. He just picks and chooses his driving differently.

Players like Oweh don't come around very often, that man is gifted with that ability from birth. He is a runaway train, when he gets going. Who ever picked him preseason POY, wasn't far off. But Haugh from Florida will probably get the honor.
Love Oweh, and sometime curse him, but he can be a game changer with Defense alone.

I didn’t realize his wife moved to Kentucky. Must have missed that. If that’s the case then I don’t see him uprooting especially given how close he and Mark probably are. Unless there’s a crazy price tag or he and his wife want to go to Utah and BYU has big interests because he’s Mormon.

I’m not talking about long 19 ft 2 point shots. I’m talking about getting by his man (which he does a lot) and pulling up in the paint and shooting or go ahead and take it to the hole, which he rarely does.
I’m not saying that’s all he should do but if he made that a weapon then getting all the way to the rim becomes easier.
This. CC shooting an open 12-footer is dang near automatic. It’s a lot better shot than him driving and trying to finish over the trees. Same for Noah, who will never help us until he starts taking those shots when they become available.

Chandler will be back. He’s close to Pope, and will get what he needs. CBB ha# gone so far off the rails, it’s embarrassing even having to think about this.

I’ll expand further… Oweh, Aberdeen, Lowe, and Mo’s positions need to be filled by the best of the best portal players, regardless of expense!

Literally, non-negotiable! I like Mo, but he’s undersized and under-skilled offensively for what Pope wants to do, and that’s why I included him. If he wants to stay on as a depth piece, I guess there’s no harm, but that will be up to Pope & Co.

I feel like Lowe would be best suited at a place like Cincinnati, taking over for Krissa, ironically.
