People love making excuses for Cliff but the reality is he is very mediocre.

Adjust your expectations. He certainly is better than mediocre. That is a ridiculous take. You want him to be an All American, which he isn’t. He is a 2nd/3rd team all big ten type, which is nothing to look down upon. Sure, I wish he did certain things better, but by this point in his career, we know what we have and I’m certainly happy he’s back for a 4th year.

Scrolled through this thread pretty quickly. I saw no mention of the fact that Princeton got 15 offensive rebounds. That strikes me as bordering on absurd. If we're giving up 15 offensive rebounds to Princeton what are we giving up to Purdue/Maryland/Etc? Gotta come ready to compete on the glass

Overall rebounding was pretty close but it did seem like Princeton was just pushing our guys out of the way and grabbing the ball out of their hands. THey were definitely playing with a higher intensity in that regard

Felt like they got away with a bit of overly physical play on him. Thought he got mugged on a blown dunk in the first, but my seats were at the other end and I couldn’t fully tell.
From the vantage of my easy chair in my tv room I saw a lot of R guys getting hit putting up shots close-in, refs let way too much go. Also P's Allocco was constantly elbowing and lowering his shoulder into the R defender on his iso's in the paint.

I might be the anti-Cliff. I'm short and need to lose weight but I bet I have a better cardio base than him. How does he always look so tired after even a few minutes?

You want an overreaction.
Gavin was a -23 on the court in 14 minutes, -15 in the first half and -8 in the second half. 😱😱😱

To expound on it,
13:15 on court 14-37, 26:45 off court 47-31
Thanks, I think I get it now.

Question: with Gavin at -23 and Cliff at -15, does that make it likely that Gavin was always on the court with Cliff, and if so, were either of the two more responsible for the negative performance of the team during Gavin’s 13 minutes, or was it all Gavin’s fault?

I remember in-game comments on this board saying “leave the starters on the bench” so I’m curious how these +|- calculations take into account who else was on the floor at the time, and which players’ negative performances were most egregious during those minutes.

This seems like the appropriate thread to add my two cents. As poorly as the team played, it was just a 4 point game with three minutes left in the second half. The team played like deer in the headlights, but, as they say, there's no where to go but up. Pike will need to find the six or seven guys that he can rely on and it may take a few games. If they beat Georgetown, and can hang with Illinois there may be hope for a decent season and an NCAA bid.

That's 10-29, about 10 out of 13:15
Total 14-37.

%80 of this board talks him up like he is an all American when he clearly isn’t, that is my issue.

Exactly You rarely know what you have or don't have with a team for 7-8 games.

Offensive rebounds only become available as a result of missed shots. Still our biggest problem.

I think he’s saying our defensive rebounding sucked, which is why Princeton got 15 offensive rebounds.

I believe he averaged 15 a game shooting 47% from the field and 50% from 3 over that stretch. We’d be a lot better with him here.
that surprises me, but stats don't lie. Just like our game the other night, it seemed like we were getting outrebounded hugely but overall it was pretty even

I haven’t checked personally but Bing says he averaged 12.4 over that stretch and 13.2 for the season
That’s probably the last 8 regular season. I was looking at the last 8 overall. He did have one game Illinois where he was awol. I don’t recall what happened but he had only 2 that game. In any event 13 is pretty good and he was tied for leading scorer with cliff. To suggest we are better without him or he won’t be missed is silly imo.

1) very troubling that Gavin benched for Oscar
2) Davis is tough but similar to Simpson last year has no idea what he can and can’t do at this level on offense.
3) Simpson a no show
4) Hyatt being Hyatt
5) Noah not a difference maker
6) tons of missed layups in 1st half
Another patented missed dunk by Omoruyi
