Why is it then there are so many companies out there that contract work to the government, if the government could do it so much better?

Because there are laws preventing the government from doing private sector work.

Manufacturing is related to the USPS, TSA, and air traffic control in what way? If something is manufactured, we give them specs, then we test the stuff for ages before we accept it. Air traffic control is a different animal. It is a real time product. Do you want to be on a plane during the test period for a new set of air traffic controllers?

Absolutely not. My wife and I are taking a Valentine’s Day trip to Napa area. We decided to drive instead of fly for that reason.

There are literally controllers who control the airplanes you fly on, receiving training absolutely every day. Some of you guys have lost it.

The "sky is falling" fear mongering has always been the Left's standard warning against cuts in big Government. Now they've just substituted planes falling out of the sky itself.

Why is it Government can't ever operate on less money or less people...and we hardly can survive without more Government? [eyeroll]

And you're a Government apologist so there isn't anything you can say.
Says the Trump apologist who defends everything the Government does when it is directed by trump, lmfao.

I know one of the princapals involved in the discussions and early on in his administration Trump discussed the possibility of privatizing the air traffic control system but ran away from that idea..... Are you suggestion that trump is stupid for keeping the air traffic control system under federal control and staffed with federal personnel? I’ll let you scour the internet for proof of those conversations

Trump's been in Office roughly two years and you think he's abandoned his agenda to devolve power out of Washington?

OK, I won't try to talk you out of it. But he still has two years left on this term and Keeping America Great will give him 4 more. It does take time to slow down a freight train or turn a creeky battle ship around.

Patience.

We have privatized airlines on what is very easily considered “vital infrastructure”, are you trying to seriously make the case we can’t figure out how to privatize the fvcking ATC? Seriously? Just stop.

I’m guessing you work at the FAA or are a controller yourself.

No, I just have some good friends that work for the FAA and the ATC system. I’m saying trump looked into getting out of the ATC business and walked away from it - now ask yourself why

So do I. I was an RCH from going down the path of ATC. Realized the limited vertical mobility, capped income earnings potential, and geographical inflexibility, and backed off.

I don’t know why he did. I don’t really care. It’s irrelevant to the discussion about whether the actual controllers themselves could be privatized. Again, if the pilots are, and the airlines are, they easily could be. Does that do away with the FAA as an overarching regulatory body? Lol, no. Nor should it. With regard to the actual infrastructure, radars, VORs, tower, airports, etc. upkeep and maintenance. I think it’d be much more difficult to privatize. I also think that’s vital infrastructure subject to potential threat and tampering by bad actors. The profession of ATC would and could be privatized.

Trump does a lot of **** I don’t like and that I find illogical if not outright ignorant. No different than all of the past Presidents before him in regard to my thoughts on them.

Would it surprise you to know Trump is already working on the idea of replacing them? If you don't think they can be replaced or privatized just be patient and hang around for a few more weeks then you'll get your answer.

You idiot read the previous posts where I already said he looked at the doing just that and walked way from those discussions.

You said he has given up on the idea altogether. You are wrong.

FYI

Canada and Europe prove privatizing ATC works

excerpt:
Actually, what Trump is proposing is for the U.S. to follow a path already laid two decades ago by Canada, as well as the UK, France, Germany, New Zealand, Australia and Switzerland.

These countries long ago came to realize that having the government manage air traffic was a mistake, and that a private company could do a better job of investing in new technology, improving efficiency and reliability and lowering costs. Suffocating government bureaucracy gave way to private sector efficiencies. And user fees, rather than unreliable government funding, pay to operate their systems. The government's role is more appropriately limited to regulating the systems for safety.
