Good too see some written material not claiming us as the B1G West Champs..

A little more motivation coming off a back to back 4-8 seasons is what this team could use..

Note: DiNardo has to make his yearly bus tour visit here in a couple of weeks let’s see what he says after his visit.. Good bulletin board material for fall camp..

I think he's basically saying what Frost and his team are saying. Prove it on the field first. Earn it. Pre season hype is nice but it means nothing. It's cliche but Frost means what he says. Day by day. Just get better. One day at a time. One game at a time. The wins will come. GBR

We will all find out if they have gotten bigger, tougher and stronger when the Wisconsin and Iowa lines punch you in the mouth for 4 quarters. Unlike the Riley years this time I have a feeling our guys will go toe to toe and punch back.Winking

Fair assessment. Back to back 4-8 season. We’ve never won the west division and have only one division title since joint the BIG. A lot returning, and I truly believe Frost has this going in the right direction. But we have to win. The hype and national attention are great, but there have been far too many off seasons that have contained Husker hype and we have failed to live up to the hype. It’s time to get some on field results.

When Ruud said we'd be stronger this year, we will be stronger,no doubt.
Dinardos comment doesnt make sense, unless he's disrespecting SF.

He knows AM can play at a high level, he knows SFs scheme is high level, hell,osu will be copying it.
Any coach should know, add those two things together, great qbing and great scheme, anything at any time, against any team, can happen.
To go out and say this now is disingenuous

You have to also include Minnesota offensive line.. They’re huge and that will be the first test before the Wisky and Ioway games..

Soft-core clickbait. But also accurate imo. Here's what DiNardo actually said.


“I just think Nebraska is overrated,” DiNardo said during The Bottom Line. “I wouldn’t make them the favorites this year. But I think it’s a great sign that the media picked them, because I think everybody that follows B1G football thinks it’s just a matter of time.”

DiNardo didn’t really take a shot at Nebraska, but is more eluding to the fact that expectations seem to be a little too high for Frost’s second season. And it’s a fair argument, considering there are still plenty of question marks surrounding the program — particularly on defense.

In a few years, though, is when DiNardo sees the Huskers becoming a national player. He wants to see Frost’s squad after a few seasons on the recruiting trail.

“I don’t think Nebraska has ever had the best talent in the country, but they’ve had very good talent,” DiNardo said. “Top 20 talent, maybe not top 10 talent. So let Scott Frost get top 20 talent and then let’s look at the Nebraska team.”

I like this guys take better (link above). It’s on the same internet page, just a different guys view. I do agree with DiNardo that the Huskers won’t win 10-11 games. I believe that’s what he means by overrated. Not so much about the 8-4 to 9-3 predictions...but to the 10-2 predictions and a playoff team. Guys claiming that aren’t in the Nebraska staff or Husker fans...just national media guys and some experts thinking the Huskers COULD have a good run...and with our schedule, the Huskers COULD put up a 10-2 record. It’s definitely possible when you have a QB like Adrain Martinez and skill players around him like JD Speilman, Maurice Washington and so on.

I posted a link above to Greg McElroy thoughts on Nebraska and I think he hits it on the nail. The Huskers will continue their play like they did to finish season and the final 6 games and will continue to improve on that. But overall, I completely agree with DiNardo that we are a year or two away from being a national contender (Adrain Martinez’s and Maurice Washington’s senior year). But this year we will be a top 25 team that finishes around 8-4 to 9-3. Absolutely no reason we shouldn’t. GBR

He was right when he made one of their bus tours when Riley was hired and said “ This doesn’t look like a B1G football team, it looks more like a PAC 12 football team not very physical practices”

True. Main thing I also wanna see is when you get up on a team step on their fing throats!! No more pissing away games we should have won. NW, CU, etc. Finish!! Winners finish!! Losers piss away games with dumb penalties and turnovers. Play like a champion!! GBR!!

With our schedule 8-4 does not get you in the top 25, we'll be 9-3 and sit at about 18-20

A large percentage of our fanbase is expecting 9 or 10 wins. Won't happen. We will make a bowl, but we won't be a top 25 team this year.

My first thought is if Gerry Di Nardo thinks we're overrated, it bodes well for us. He never seems to get us right. I seem to recall he praised us going into the 2015 and 2017 seasons, and suggested we shouldn't expect anything more than making a bowl at best during the 2016 season. He was a mediocre coach and is a mediocre(at best) analyst.

Silly is to predict a team that's gone 4-8 two years in a row with an abysmal defense and massive question marks at WR, RB, OL, LB, and S to win 9 or 10 games (and the division).

Massive question marks at WR, RB, OL, LB and S, WOW??? Someone has a completely bad view of us. I only see a some question marks at RB and that’s it.

So you don't think C, or OG is a concern after losing DJ and Farmer? You don't think WR is a concern after losing Stan? You don't think LB is a concern after losing Gifford? Our Safeties sucked last year and we lost a bunch of guys with a lot of experience. None of those positions concern you at all?

I suppose if expecting the team to make a bowl but have an 8 win ceiling is "having a bad view of us", then I'm guilty as charged.

WR we gained a senior grad transfer in Kanawai Noa that was one of the best in the PAC 12 and we have one the best WR currently in the BIG 10 in JD Speilman. Then we have a solid WRs in Kade Warner and a promising A Hunt, two decent WRs in Mike Williams and J Woodward. After that we have some young very talented WRs and one that’s getting BIG TIME praise Wandale Robinson. WR is more then fine.

Oline returns Boe Wilson, M Farniok and B Jaimes who all have played or started since freshman’s and this is their junior year. Will Farniok just got named starter for center and I’m more then good with him. That leaves one spot, the other guard spot and between Hixson and the other talented Oline we have, they will find a guy.

LB we have Mo Barry, Honas, T Ferguson, J Domann, and Caleb Tannor. Our only worry is young LBs backing them up.

Safety we Deontai Williams and PFF has him with a 91-93 ranking which is the highest rating out of any DB in the BIG 10. Along side him appears to be M Dismuke which is in RS junior year. The former 4 star is more then ready to take his starting spot on.

So yea, I only see MAYBE some question marks at RB and that’s only if Maurice Washington gets kicked or suspended for the year. He stays on the team or only misses one game. RB is more then fine too. Washington and D Mills along with R Johnson and the other RBs will be good.

So yes, the team we bring back is MORE then capable of a 8-4 to 9-3 season. 10-2 isn’t out of the question either. It’s just a matter how far the team has came along. GBR

What team(s) is favored?
If winning the west isnt on par with the teams ability, thats fine for those that believe that, and can agree with dinardo.
I dont,I think they can win the west, thats not over rating them, that's not expecting too much from this staff.
But go ahead,tell us how we cant win the west, just like dinardo.

Or maybe this will help you feel a little better. Wisconsin and Iowa both have question marks a crossed their teams as well. Wisconsin lost 3-4 starters on the Oline, 3- 4 starting LBs and a few other defenders and will have a very young inexperienced QB. Iowa loses their top 5-6 leading tacklers on defense and every starter on the DLine (but they do return Epenesa). They lost two first round draft pick TEs, their top WR and 2-3 starters on the Oline. So the top teams in the west have question marks. ;)

That’s on you, not me. I seen an very loaded Iowa team last year barely escape a first year Scott Frost and Huskers with a true freshman QB in Iowa City. This year Iowa won’t be as good and Frost will be in year 2 and this time it will be in Lincoln.

Wisconsin game I’m taking a more wait and see approach, but they have probably more question marks then Iowa and Nebraska. This year should be our year for them.

You're thinking with your heart and not with your head. Essentially JD is our only returning playmaker at WR and he is injury-prone.

40% of our starting OL will be made up of relatively inexperienced players.

Ferguson, Honas, and Domann all can be good players but have missed time with injuries and haven't quite lived up to their potential. Tannor wasn't ready to contribute last year and might not be this year.

Using a PFF grade for a player with limited playing time that couldn't beat out some very mediocre Safeties is some quality optimism, but you shouldn't put much stock in it. Dismuke had high expectations and has not been able to live up to any of them.

A win is a win is a win. You can take your moral victories and hope for the following year, but I pay attention to the scoreboard.
