I've seen the discussions regarding Frost's coaching, and 2AM's sub-par passing, but I haven't seen any comments on Coach Verduzco. 2AM's passing has not improved the past two years, and in fact appears to have gotten worse. So Coach V shouldn't be getting a free pass, he's supposed to be a QB development guru, so what gives? And I wonder how much input he and Lubick have in determining who the starter is? As the HC and playcaller, I expect Frost is the final decision maker, but hopefully he gives their opinions as much weight as his own (especially if they're recommending that Luke starts against PSU).

I don't think Coach V can teach a shoulder how to heal properly. Adrian was damaged goods coming in. Ohio State knew it and passed on him. Whatever injury he sustained to the shoulder last year probably finished his arm off for good. He hasn't shown any consistency in accuracy for over a year.

Our QB whisperer had better hope that LM is able to sling it.

If not, he's 0/2 here, not counting T. Gebbia.

Good point.

That is why I want seeing a new QB at the start of the game before pointing the finger at Verduzco and seeing what he can accomplish playing a full game..

Well consider how young they are in the QB room. Your backups were Noah Vedral and Andrew Bunch. Luke is a redshirt freshman and they didn't wanna burn his shirt last year.

Gloves are off at this point, I think Martinez has lost the job. I don't know what his deal is but I don't know if his shoulder is any good. You'd think there has to be a physical reason why you regress like that with your accuracy. Luke runs better and I don't see how he could throw much worse.

I suspect that Martinez is a guy who does the right stuff for the most part M-F and then falls apart on Saturdays. The opposite of a gamer. Luke is clearly competitive as hell, I just hope he can handle all the hits he subjects himself to.

You can be a hell of a coach, if a dude can't throw you've got problems. I mean how are the Patriots doing this year? Did Belichik forget how to coach or is Brady maybe really accurate and really smart?

The shoulder issue has nothing to do with it. The injury last year against Purdue was his left, non throwing shoulder.

Watch the game again and answer these questions: 1. Does Martinez see receivers well, 2. Does he see openings to run when they are there 3. Does he have a quick release (the time from seeing an opening to getting the ball out), 4. Does he throws receivers open or hold onto the ball too long?

Seriously watch a game or two and you will get your answer.

Another thing I think McCaffrey does is not dwell on his mistakes. If Adrian screws up it is going to affect him for at least 2-3 drives minimum right now. I think Luke just goes out and plays ball and if he messes up fine, but he is so damn competitive he is going to go out and make something happen.

I see what you see. :) Something is wrong with his arm though. No explanation for the short throws without it. Literally a die roll for him to complete a pass that I could complete 95% of the time.

Coach V may be stuffing his brain with too many goodies. Maybe simplifying it is the answer. On any play, I'd give him 2 likely high probability throws, and if those breakdown, run Forrest run. However, by now, he can either process the information given or he can't.

Well I think we'll have to see how Coach Verduzco has done with Luke before we blame him for Martinez. No doubt Adrian has diminished his passing and decision making ability since freshman year. May be caused by lasting injury effect and resulting lower confidence level. Don't know though what the cause is but clearly there's an issue of some kind.

The verdict on Verduzco as a coach is still an open question I think because he did well at UCF and so far has only had Adrian starting at Nebraska (who starts is Frost's decision). I hope we get to see Luke and how he does as a starter playing for a lot of reps in a row so we can determine if he gets in a groove or not. Verdict open on Luke as well at this point.

All we know for sure right now is that sadly Adrian has lost it for whatever reason.

AM is in his own head. Luke lols like AM did his freshman year because he doesn’t have to think about anything. All his throws are to the number 1 option. Snap it throw it! No thinking.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Martinez’s surgery this offseason was on his non throwing arm I believe. He injured it near the goal line vs Purdue last year.

This. We outgained them by 130 yards. Frosts redzone play calling is the issue, not Verdu's development of QBs.

Good point. We have no issue moving the ball. It’s once we get to the 30 yard line our guys begin to choke.

Yep. Ready to see a different QB under center. Seen this movie enough times already.

The one thing I worry about with LM is what happens if he gets dinged up.

Taylor Martinez was lightning in a bottle. Until he sustained a leg injury.

At that point, he became easy to defend and it's a miracle he made it out of here in one piece.

As Scott would say, no fear of failure. If Luke gets injured, next man up (which is Adrian). Even at 160lbs Luke seems to be more durable than AMart.

But this doesn't change the fact the AM's passing accuracy and decision making have not been good. Some of that does fall on Verdu.
Maybe. But we won't know until we at least see Luke get the start and have the chance to prove otherwise for a full four quarters. What do we have to lose at this point other than AM?

Verduzco was the OC at Missouri State (where I now live) for a year before leaving for UCF. It was the most unorganized, awful offense I’ve ever seen.
