While of course I love what Coach Pikell is doing(and going to the games is fun again-I have already gone to more games than last year I think). I know it is still early but I would still like to see more off the ball back screens to free up players. But as has been said in so many posts it is just great to watch a team play basketball with fundamentals. So lets enjoy

There were a few times early in the game when Thiam hesitated on open looks. He needs to be confident enough to catch and shoot (no matter how soon in the shot clock). We need him to estsblish an outside presence for us, early in games.
I thought there were quite a few of these back screens and "face cuts" that actually led to lay-up attempts. Unfortunately, Miami defended them very well, to Miami's credit - got several blocked shots on excellent defensive rotations.. And Freeman missed several relatively easy lay-up attempts, in addition to having several shots blocked.
They took Freeman out of the game early on - we need Freeman and the post game to win. Off night by Freeeman - blocks, easy misses and some rimmed out shots.
Again...we need to make a concerted effort of getting transition points.
One thing we saw late in the game was being more aggressive defensively in passing lanes which resulted in easy layups.
I also want to see Corey taking the outlet higher than free throw line extended.

Idk bout u guys, but it was hard to watch our offense last night. But like coach P has said... the plays and opportunities are there. So that's good to see.
I would think Coach P wants to see us be a really good rebounding team before we let our guards "run" (and not be involved themselves on the glass). Was flying back from the West Coast yesterday so have not yet watched the game, but was surprised to see UM have a +14 advantage on us on the boards.
My opinion is until Coach is satisfied with our rebounding and defense we will be spending the majority of our practice time on those areas. And that has a direct correlation to how much time is spent on offense, offense v. zone defenses and our transition offense.
Just a thought.
I made a comment in another thread before the game that it's not on the coaches when shots don't fall. I think the whole complexion of the game may have been different if Freeman had made the 3-4 uncontested bunny layups he missed in the first 10 minutes. I really think he left 10 points on the floor just on inability to finish off plays - between the bunnies and one blocked dunk attempt that I don't think he went up strong enough with. Between that and a couple of fouls... it just wasn't his night.
Beyond that, we started off 0-9 from range, I think, and finished 3-16. If we started 3-9 and finished 6-16, that's another 9 points along with Freeman's 10, and it would have been a completely different ballgame.
I thought the team fought hard, and were coached well. I think they were prepared, they ran the plays they were given, they got their looks... but they just couldn't find the bottom of the net. We just lack that scoring consistency... sometimes it's there, and sometimes it's not. When it's not, we're going to struggle once we hit conference play - because defense/hustle/etc alone isn't going to keep us in games.
Were there things to clean up? Definitely. Some ill advised or bad passes, some gambles on defense, some body control/positioning fouls from our bigs, some defensive gaps, etc.... but overall, if we had hit our uncontested/lightly contested shots at a higher rate, this game was in reach for us. And that's a good sign moving forward.

Rebounding margin was a little skewed based on the fact that Miami didn't have many misses and we did. We did a poor job on DREB.
We got 30.9% of our misses and only 53.1% of Miami misses.
So yes that number needs to be in the 65%+ area to start leaking out more.

I actually like the looks we got last night ...and think a little more patience, some more cohesiveness and faster ball movent and knowing where the shot needs to come from will make this type of game that goes from
