Our offense is coming along nicely

Being objective, our offense is coming together. Martinez plays far beyond a true freshman level, our line has improved, our receivers are good, and Ozigbo had a great game. Our offense is good enough to win games and will continue to improve as we rebuild the o line.

The main issue yesterday was our defense. The intentional grounding and holding no calls didn’t help, but overall our defense got shredded. They did whatever they wanted to our secondary. We desperately need to recruit some difference makers.

As we recruit and cut out the remaining Riley cancer, we’ll be good. Holy sheet this year is agonizing though.

Offense is getting better, no doubt. OL played as well as they've played since Colorado yesterday, and we started to get more consistency. A lot more is needed for the future, but I was happy

Huge holes on D, though, continue to hurt. But they played OK up until the end. Special teams continues to hurt us and make things tough, and inconsistency on O hurts the D also.

I had real questions about the defensive backfield in particular to start the year, and they are really, really bad

I couldn’t decide if our secondary is just bad, if they look bad because we can’t get to the qb, or both.

agree, the lack of a pass rush is bad, but I think we have more passable players on the DL, just no difference makers

You can see the potential with the offense. My worry is whether they can get ahead of the curve with their OL talent. They need to sign as many dudes as they can on the line.

I thought the OL played OK yesterday, and the young guys, like Boe Wilson, were among the better performers on the line. Unfortunately, Foster will be an addition by subtraction for next year.

Overall, I'm sure they'll invest a lot in OL scholies, but we have some young linemen who will fit in well after a year of adjustment to the new system, and with some S&C to prep them to what is expected in Frost's system.

Agree offense looks promising especially at QB.

During the post-game interview Frost deflected defense questions. Hopefully he will get more involved next year.

I think Frost, like everyone, was disgusted with the defense on their last drive in regulation. He didn’t hide it well.

Frankly, Martinez and the offense are farther along at this point than I was expecting

The offense has loads of potential and Martinez and Washington will be stars. The OL let everybody down in key spots (again) and played a large part in the collapse at the end, so I don't think that we can give the offense a pass and pin this all on the defense.

I'm really excited to see what this offense is going to be fully capable of 2-3 years down the road. It sucks guys like Stanley Morgan for example won't be part of this offense down the road.

He was virtually non-existent yesterday.

I see what I think is a great effort on the part of the D line, but not enough speed to pressure the opposing QB. I also think I saw a pretty good O line effort Saturday. There is enuf to do.

How much of the improved play by the offense is a product of the defensive performance level of the team they are playing?

Frost spoke specifically of their lack of DB depth before the season started. He knows the cupboard is bare.

Foster hasn't lived up to the hope at that LG spot but addition by subtraction with him graduating is wishful thinking. He's the starter for a reason. If they had somebody better they'd play him.

Trying to play 3-4 with 4-3 personnel

In a rush to go big at DB, we have sacrificed speed overall (except Bootle...hhhmmmm a wonder he is our best cover corner?)

No elite pass rusher since Gregory

I don't believe we had 1 sack yesterday against 63 pass attempts, that is the biggest issue in my mind! Also not 1 holding call in these 63 attempts.

Agree, OL making strides, I know it's late in the year for a complete turnaround but Frost's "system" makes sense to me in Lincoln, so long as he can recruit speed.

Farmer is a good center, I know he had a bad snap yesterday, but Frost needs to go under center like UCF did on their big 4th down. Power package too.

Frost needs to take responsibility RIGHT HERE and stop the finger pointing. Point the thumb. This staff gets a C- right now and on their way to a F if this shitshow continues.

Morgan is a great kid great body but lacks true vertical speed.

Not sure I completely agree. If I remember correctly, the defense held pretty nicely the first quarter, as they did the first quarter of Wisconsin. Besides the opening touchdown for Northwestern, our offense went on and off the field in record time. Those defenders probably feel like they just walked off the field when they are walking right back on. That eventually wears down a weak group to begin with. The offense should do more with those opportunities, so I am still somewhat disappointed in the offense – especially based on Frost’s preseason confidence quotes.

We are consistently inconsistent on both sides of the ball. The D played great for 3 quarters, held them to 7 points. The offense looked sharp and fast on the first 2 series until the second series stalled and gave up NWs second touchdown later in the half. Start of the second half the O and D played well, that is until we went into full, don't do anything to lose the game mode, then the wheels fell off for both the O and D. You can see the progress imo, but every fan wants to win and win now.

I’m not sold on Chinander, but I think he needs more talent.

I’m with you I’ll give Chinander another 2 or 3 years but Frost can’t gamble being loyal to him like Callahan was to Cosgrove and Riley to Banker with they exception of Eichorst meddling in on making Riley make a staff change..

Tell us who those linemen are. Austin has said he has no depth. You have Bo and then.......

Defensively this team needs some quick fixes like getting some defensive players from the juco ranks at every position. A true pass rusher and some lock down corners would be my priority for this class, If we can land another stud O-lineman and one or two athletic linebackers that be would be helpful as well.

The offense and special teams did their part at the end, for sure. Even after a nights sleep I can’t believe our defense let them go 99 yards.
What was is something like a 1% chance for NW to win that game. Having to go 99 yards, no Time outs, With 2 min left. It was really impossible when you think about it. The problem was even with a blitz, we still couldn't pressure Thorston. Can anyone tell me why we were so easily able to manhandle and pressure CU line and QB, but haven't done anything since? I honestly don't know.

Looks like some latter joe tiller offenses that could stack up yards but couldn’t score when it mattered
