no top 100 players , nasty d and grind it out on offense . I’d actually like our offense to be more motion offense oriented like them . Not saying we’re going to make the finals or anything but you can see the this is the type of team Pike wants. Player development is so key for teams like us and tech eco don’t recruit lottery picks . It also helps that tech has a stud grad transfer in Mooney to lead their team .

Culver, Owens, Edwards and Francis were 4-star / Top 100 HS recruits.

Culver will be a lottery pick this year and they had a lottery pick last year (Zaire Smith).

Culver, Owens, and Edwards were all 3-star recruits outside the top 100. Francis was a top prospect.

Jarrett Culver: The nation’s No. 80 overall player and No. 8 player in Texas as ESPN Top 100 member - was only a 3-star recruit, but still top 100

Tariq Owens: A four-star, Top 100 prospect out of high school

Kyler Edwards: Rated as a four-star prospect

Texas Tech is sort of like the 2003 Syracuse team with Carmelo Anthony. Not as dependent on their future lottery pick as Syracuse was, but much better defensively.

You’re watching a more talented team in Texas Tech, but it’s a very similar build.

Defense and length. I said last night I feel like I’m watching rutgers

You're giving way too much credit and trust to Texas Tech's roster profiles. None of Culver/Owens/Edwards are listed as 4-star or Top 100 players on any of the recruiting site pages. At best TTech is listing them that way because these players may have had a brief cup of coffee at the tail end of some Top 100 list at some point during their recruitment, but then they fell off before the final ratings were locked in.... or they could just be making stuff up out of thin air.

Culver's 247 composite was #312 nationally. ESPN has him as the No. 17 player in TX, and their 43rd ranked shooting guard, with no "Top 100" logo on his page. Maybe at one point in his recruitment he made their Top 100 list, but he wasn't close to it in their final list. http://www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/223991/jarrett-culver

Owens' was #185 on the 247 composite, and a 3-star on all rating services I could find. ESPN had him as the #45 PF in the class, 247 had him as the #41 PF in the class, and Rivals didn't even have a ranking for him at his position.

Edwards was #160 on the 247 composite and #140 on Rivals, and also 3-star on all rating services I could find.

To win a championship, it's the x and o's and the jimmy and the joes.

Media Guides always make things as positive as possible. I think Owens may have been a four-star rated prospect in the summer of 2013. So technically what they wrote is not incorrect since they didn't cite when or what service ranked him as a four-star prospect. When the final rankings came out, Owen's was a consensus three-star prospect.

He committed to Tennessee. Didn't play much then he transferred when Barnes was hired. Very good grad pick up. He chose TTU over Maryland.

Will that also include rioting in the streets if we make the national championship game? Don't understand that behavior, isn't that usually reserved for winning the championship?

Even with great defense you still have to put the ball in the hoop. Texas Tech has much better offensive players than Rutgers. We still need guys that can score.

.....................Texas Tech...........Rutgers

FG%.................47%.......................41%

3 pt%...............36%.......................31%

FT%.................73%.......................64%

Not sure where you are getting your rankings. Only Francis was a 4-star on either Rivals or 247 Sports. The rest were all 3-stars and with not that many big-time offers. Mooney was a 1-star whose only offer was Air Force. So the OP's point is a good one.

We're on a Rivals site. Let's just go with Rivals:

Jarrett Culver, 3* - Tariq Owens, 3* - Kyler Edwards, 3* (140) - Brandone Francis, 4* (35) -

247's composite rankings agree with these rankings. Only one kid was a 4-star. And, let's not forget, Mooney was a 1 or 2-star recruit, depending on the service. His only other offer was Air Force.

True but Texas Tech didn't "discover" Mooney... he was one of the top available grad transfers last spring.

Key word: consensus. Some sites may have pumped these prospects up more.
