Maybe I am lucky in that I was not born in the South and when we finally moved to Mississippi when I was in jr high, I got the newcomers pamphlet... Don't remember all the rules, but I do remember rule number one:

Don't talk crap about Jesus, Dale Earnhardt, or Widespread Panic. You will not meet anyone in the South who does not worship 2 of the 3. And steer clear of the Earnhardt/Widespread crowd, they are extremely rare and dangerous.

Some of you natives should know better, but maybe you can check the Visitors center off 55 just south of Memphis to see if you can snag the newcomers guide and get caught up on the rules.

Easy Fish. There's no need to injure your "can they dunk?" arm patting yourself on the back & giving us your concerta vitae.

Lol

That's not even all I saw last year... just some of the better ones...

50 days on the mountain, but I did witness some crappy Bronco's games..

I’ve enjoyed many a Panic show and many a trip to talladega. Same party different style.

Panic is an offspring of the Dead and the Allman brothers and hell maybe even the Outlaws.
They still got it. Duane Trucks has hit them with a little shot of adrenaline. He's on point with Jimmy more than Todd ever was. at least towards the end of Todd.
Duane is jimmys son in law and they've known each other for most of Duane's life.
Mikey and Todd grew up together. It makes sense if you think about it and not jus let throw and old opinion out there to try to sound cool.
In conclusion, its ok to like both. I happen to like both bacon and sausage, why can't I like Miley/Todd and Jimmy/Duane?

Anyways, don't go if you don't like them, they sell out almost every show they do now due to doing so few, leave a ticket for someone who appreciates the music for what it is.

Those who claim that Jimmy sucks probably didn't even like the music with Mikey, they were just trying to be part of a thing. Now it's cool to be the guy that went to 103 Mikey shows brahhh and they are trash now.

And finally to the dude that says it's about the drugs, you are right, just like going to an MSU football game is all about getting tow up in the junction and getting in a fight***

Jimmy doesn't suck, he's a good guitarist on any non-Mikey tunes. Jimmy is awesome on covers and especially any ABB tune.
I just miss that lingering lead.
Mikey wrote the songs and the only person close to his playing on them is Sam Holt.

Duane slaps better than Todd. They sound better with him. Jimmy is more talented than Houser classically. It’s a different sound love the old sound like the new sound.

I agree with Fish on this somewhat. Houser’s style was so unique that any other sound outside of his on his songs just sounds strange at times. I do think Jimmy sounds fine on a lot of them, but there are some where it just doesn’t work. See Space Wrangler.

I remember reading an interview awhile back where jimmy said he told the band he could duplicate that style and they did not want that. They wanted him playing the songs his way.

This guy gets it. The people who aren’t satisfied with the band now are the ones who actually were listening to the music. For those that still go, the music itself is way down the list of things that are important to them. The drugs, the hang, the set list, bust outs, the fellowship- all trump the music itself. This is also the crowd who will claim that every show they go to is the best show the band has ever played.

It was always about the music for me which has made it unlistenable with the absence of Mike and now Todd. I’m glad they still play and have a good time, but I can’t listen.

Funny you mention that. Most of the Panic community hated steely dan up until Jimmy started playing in a band with Steely Dans drummer Keith Carlock and then all of a sudden Steely Dan instantly became ok with them. Weird how that happened.

No doubt, Jimmy's Wranglers and Airplanes especially are not as good as Mikey's. But they are still good songs and he puts his own spin on them.
And believe it or not, Jimmy has nearly been playing with JB and the boys for as long as Mikey did. I'm talking Years together.
Jimmy is not a songwriter but boy Houser was. Their newer albums aren't that great but man they can still rip it up.

Their light touring schedule also means that when you go see them, you are going to get a show to remember.

Last summer in Memphis was great, especially night two.

Hope I can get to Red rocks and Jackson if the rumors are true.

See you boys at the blue tent on shakedown***
