I heard recently that there is a good chance they play Brandon this summer. Is that the buzz? Never been to a show but might have to if they play Brandon. Kinda shocked Rankin Co would make that happen but I could also see them eyeing it as a policing opportunity even though the crowd would be about the same as DMB.

ETA- I got a text in response to this thread at 3 that said it’s not a rumor, it’s happening. Take that fwiw

It's the West Rankin Utility Authority effluent treatment project. That's not a "City of Brandon" project. Brandon is one of several political subdivisions that are members of WRUA (Brandon, Pearl, Richland, Flowood, Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, etc.). The funding for the project is generated through enterprise funds controlled by the member political subdivisions whose rates are charged to residential and commercial customers based on usage, debt service, infrastructure costs, etc. Has nothing to do with the amphitheater or sales taxes or tourism taxes or anything of the sort.

I haven't heard that rumor, but I'd be skeptical

Panic only does 2-3 night stands now. While it wouldn't shock me, I just don't see them having a 2-3 night run in Brandon. They have done it in Southaven though and At Thalia Mara a few years ago so its possible.

Man I miss One Jackson Place.

I literally thought this thread was about poker and it made no sense to me. The only thing I recognized clearly was Boddicker pissing on something for no good reason.

Ah reminds me of some hippies getting lost in Jackson and recalling the story to me: “We were in some neighborhood with dilapidated houses but WSP was spray painted here and there. Didn’t realize people there listened to panic.” Then I informed them that WSP meant Wood Street Players aka most notorious neighborhood in Jackson at that time.

Hope that happens. I don't have a bucket list per se, but if I did George Strait might be on it.

ETA: Right now in 2019 George Strait has 7 announced dates in Las Vegas, one in Atlanta, one in Ft. Worth and one at Ohio Stadium (OSU). Brandon Amphitheater doesn't exactly fit that profile.

I live within rock throwing distance of this theater, and you could not pay me to go see these guys. Go see a bunch of old drugged out hippies mumble lines and fill their retirement accounts? Nah, I will pass on that. I have never understand the fascination with these guys, I mean it is basically the same song over and over with slightly different lyrics. I get if you are tripping on acid or rolling they are a life changing thing, as are most things on those kind of drugs.

FYI if you do plan on attending this, if it happens, I would be very careful with the drugs. The Rankin County Sheriffs and the Brandon City police do not play. Take this warning from someone that enjoys the greenage and lives in the area. Do not play with those folks like you would at a normal panic show.

So you have never seen them live...

Actually seen them live several times live, even got arrested at a show in Birmingham Alabama trying to go see them. They were ok at Mud Island. As I have gotten older I have started to like them less and less. I am just pointing out you take away the drugs and they are really not that great. Not trying to offend Panic fans just saying the only reason most get so into them is the drugs, if your being honest.

In the words of Joe Rogan speaking about the Grateful Dead “ I get that you get it, but I don’t get it”.

It would be nice if they could swing it, but yeah that venue doesn't seem big enough for the types of shows he is doing.

Widespread was a totally different band when "Panic" Mikey was on guitar with that lingering lead.
I agree they don't sound the same and aren't great without him, some might even say they suck now..

Don't call them panic without Mikey, just don't do it... It's just Widespread...

You need new batteries in your Panic signal

it took you 6 hours before you posted the same thing you always post in literally any panic related thread ever.

17 Fishwater, your line gets old. We get you worshipped Mikey. And he was great, but the band doesnt sux without him. Do I wish he was still here, absolutely. But life and Panic goes on. Actually, they've played some of there best shows in a long long time just in the last couple of years. I hate to sound like a grown up, but if you dont have anything nice to say STFU! And Mannix, who do you listen to now, Taylor Swift or Katy Perry? Hows that going for ya?

Herring is an amazing guitarist in his own right. Songs like Mercy will never be the same without Mikey, but I agree that they have been putting on some outstanding shows recently. Drugs or no drugs.

Like I’ve said I’ve never been to a show but I think you’re going over the top with a lot of things. Maybe you went to shows for drugs but I actually like the music. It’s easy going southern rock. I might go, drink a few beers, and laugh my *** off at the undercover so’s when they ask me about acid.

Fish is part of crowd that I have been around before, I understand them and respect their opinions. I will admit that I didn’t like what I saw right after Mikey died. I went to a show and hated it, sounded bad and was depressing. This was at a time in my life when my musical influences changed, WSP was not as persistent as it once was in my cd changer, got older and more distractions. I got away from WSP for a while but would keep up with how they were performing.

We knew the band just went through a major tragedy and it would take time to get back on the tracks. Heck we all had doubt they would be able to make it without Mikey. Its 2019 and they are still playing. They have had an amazing run. I rarely listen to them today but they are still one of my favorite bands.

I wouldn’t mind taking my family to see them one day.

You should check them out one day man.

I remember seeing Panic at the Jackson Zoo 14 million years ago. Does anyone else remember that show? I think it was in the summer...which is also the name of the girl I hung out with that night...Summer. Also saw them at the MSU Amphitheater when everyone bumrushed the gates.

I'd go back to see them if I were you. Went a bunch '93-'00. Took off from '00 til about '13-'14. Don't miss if they come close now. They still got it.

It’s easy going southern rock.

I have never heard them described as such before. I'm not a fan, nor am I a hater, of WSP. I just never really got into them.

This makes me want to give them another listen. In my head what you described is Blackfoot or Allman Brothers or The Eagles.

ETA: I don't particularly care for The Eagles, but they seem a far cry from WSP.

Also, interesting that you posted this on Ronnie Van Zant's birthday.

Lol, you feel better now..
They are not a great band anymore, post Mikey. I do go to the Sunday Show at RR every year but that's it.

There are much better bands and guitarist out there.
Who do I listen to and go see(Last year), Foo Fighters, CRB with Neal Casal on guitar and Adam McDougall on Keys, Marcus King Band, Warren "the man" Haynes, Sturgil, Todd Park Mohr, Dead and Company, JRad with Tom Hamilton on guitar, Bobby with Wolf bro's, Gary Clark Jr, Beck, Greensky Bluegrass, Lettuce, David Byrne. I can go on.. GTFOH

I used to be a manager at Bulldog Deli and the guys that worked there played it 24/7 and I grew to HATE WSP. It took me several years of not hearing them before I was okay to listen again. On my time.

Panic is an offspring of the Dead and the Allman brothers and hell maybe even the Outlaws.
They still got it. Duane Trucks has hit them with a little shot of adrenaline. He's on point with Jimmy more than Todd ever was. at least towards the end of Todd.
Duane is jimmys son in law and they've known each other for most of Duane's life.
Mikey and Todd grew up together. It makes sense if you think about it and not jus let throw and old opinion out there to try to sound cool.
In conclusion, its ok to like both. I happen to like both bacon and sausage, why can't I like Miley/Todd and Jimmy/Duane?

Anyways, don't go if you don't like them, they sell out almost every show they do now due to doing so few, leave a ticket for someone who appreciates the music for what it is.

Those who claim that Jimmy sucks probably didn't even like the music with Mikey, they were just trying to be part of a thing. Now it's cool to be the guy that went to 103 Mikey shows brahhh and they are trash now.

And finally to the dude that says it's about the drugs, you are right, just like going to an MSU football game is all about getting tow up in the junction and getting in a fight***
