OT: Wood Floors

We have Caribbean pine in our entire downstairs except our master. We're in the process of replacing the carpet in there with wood. Turns out Caribbean pine is either hard to get now or really expensive or both I guess. We've had a couple of guys come out to quote it and they both recommended using a yellow pine and said they would match the color.

Anyone have any recommendations or someone in mind that they trust to do good work with wood flooring?

I love the look of wood but I like tile floors because they are harder to scratch and easier to clean up (we have two Australian Shepherds). We found a great deal on the tile and installed it ourselves. BTW, it is not a job for the faint of heart.

Ordered wood flooring over 2 weeks ago. Just heard yesterday it would "hopefully be June" before its available. Wife is leaning toward tile now because availability is supposedly better or not bad at all. First chicken wings, now flooring

Out of curiosity, what's the hurry in doing it now? Things could look a lot different in a year.

Carribean Heart Pine is bad ***. I'm sure you can get it online. Assuming you are looking at 250-300SF max, I would shell out the extra cash for the real deal. It would bug me to see the transition from CHP to even old growth longleaf. Also CHP I'd really hard for a pine, about as hard as red oak, most yellow pines are much softer and will get beat up quickly.


Look around online and see if you can find what you want. If not, call Robinson lumber in New Orleans. The owner, Toto Robinson, is to imported hardwood lumber what Sam Walton was to retail shopping. If those guys can't point you in the right direction, there isn't one.

And yet some people beat their floors, counter tops, etc w/ steel chains and hammers, punch them w/ knives, nails, and screwdriver tips, scuff them w/ sanders and saw blades to intentionally make them distressed and aged looking. Lots of videos on YouTube showing it
