OT - Wireless Security Camera Systems

Alright pack there has been some shady things going on in my neighborhood. A few unlocked cars were rummaged thru and one car stolen a neighborhood over. The wife has finally agreed to let me install an outdoor camera system. What systems would anyone recommend? Right now I have my eye on the Arlo Pro3 but have not talked to anyone that is currently using that system. I searched the forum and the last post was back in 2018 and its time for a new thread. I'm not apposed to a subscription service but would like a local storage option if possible. I'm lazy and don't feel like running wires thru the soffit so a wired system is out of the picture unless all the wireless systems are garbage.

Also any tips or anything you would do different if you had to do it all over.

I just did a Blink XT2 on my house. Only did 1 camera for where our kids play in the backyard and my wife wanted to be able to watch them. I really like it and literally took 10 minutes to setup and install.

I have 2 Ring products and 2 Wyze cameras. The $25 Wyze camera is hard to beat with good image quality, phone app is good, no monthly fee, and you have the option to put a SD card in the camera that will store 5-7 days of continuous recording.

2nd Blink. Cheaper than a lot of cameras. free amazon cloud storage. only only problem is that the motion sensor is the only time it will record. So you have to place them so you don't have it recording all the time. The default is 5 secs i think. Which may or not be enough. We have two. I set one up on our front porch and on our garage to catch anything coming from the road to our house and if anyone messes with our cars. I also like it because I can see if packages are delivered. easy to set up install.

Sounds like Antifa is doing some probing into the perimeter.

This stuff has been happening all over Nashville. I’ve been told by cops that there’s a traveling group out of Flarda to blame.
As far as wireless cameras, keep in mind that if your internet is bad, the cameras will be worthless. This is why I’ve stuck with the wired ones. They’re cheap and you can do it yourself, but it doesn’t sound like you want to.

I have the Blink cameras and am pleased with how they work. You can set the length of time they record when activated, you can set the sensitivity to motion, and you can set “zones” in the camera field that won’t activate the camera. On camera for my patio I have outside curtains that when the wind blows them it would activate the camera. Pulled up the field of view for that camera and block the area where the curtains would move; problem solved.

That’s interesting the sheriff officer I spoke with said they suspect theses thieves were from out of state.

I like the Arlo system because it uses a hub. I’m not sure but if the internet goes down the cameras will still record to the local storage.

I have used Arlo for a couple of years now. Two cameras...one covering front and one in Back...Good quality pics, but the camera engages a few seconds after activity. Cameras are very easy to maneuver to get best views....Has options as to whether you wish it to record only as long as movement detected, or can set a time frame of up to 2 minutes of non-stop recording when movement is detected.

Works great with my smart phone...can set it to get a 'push' notice if activity and can change the 'sensitivity' level so don't get a lot of views from headlights on the street passing by. I have not chosen to go the route of cloud storage of video, so no monthly fee.

My base station and two cameras cost me less than $275. I do have good internet service so that is a plus for me. Camera batteries last about a month, but that depends on how many times the cameras are set off by the old raccoon, bobcat, stray dogs, cats come sniffing around. Batteries are rechargeable which is an add one time expense.

And, no, I do not get a commission for any referrals....LOL

This is my question, I dont want to have to replace batteries every month or two. Are all wireless systems run off battery power?

I have the Arlo Pro 3. It works great. Video quality is awesome. Easy to install. The App is easy to use and I love the features that it comes with on the doorbell as well. Has quick response options for the doorbell if you’re busy and can tap your phone on a robot response to the person ringing the doorbell. You can click on a camera in the app and talk to anyone in cameras range. Very fast and responsive with the audio features. It records any movements on camera and you can send the link to people/police through a text of any movement. Didn’t hardwire it in. You’ll have to recharge the cameras every other month pretty much but it doesn’t take but like 30 minutes to charge a camera back to 100%

I bought an extra set of batteries that I keep charged to put in when the ones in the camera need charging....

Wow, came here to ask the same thing. We might be in the same neighborhood. 5 cars, that I've heard of, in the neighborhood i live in were gone through last night. I screenshot one on Amazon I was thinking about caled Goowls but don't know much about these systems. Definitely will be looking into Arlo and Blink now

I’d recommend wired too. Specifically look for POE cameras. That way you can get network and power through one Ethernet cable with no required electrical work. Just have to buy a POE switch to plug in your router to “inject” the power in the cords going to your cameras. Works up to 300 ft I believe. I have 4 outdoor ones running 24/7 for 3 or 4 years now with no failures or required maintenance. Also you can continuously record to a local hard drive on your network without saturating your WiFi.

I had my security system company install some moderately expensive 1080p cameras. If your robber/thief wears a mask (almost all do) then the cameras are basically worthless. It’s really only worth it to keep an eye on the kids or ******** neighbors.

I have Arlo and am VERY satisfied with it. The clarity is fantastic, and it is extremely user friendly. They say customer support stinks, but I’ve never had to use it. All but two of mine are plugged in (that gives you more video storage options) but it takes no time to charge them. I would highly recommend them.

Well if it’s the same people that are doing it here in Flarda, it’s rich teenagers bored out of their mind because they don’t have **** to do. They have been caught on camera.
