See that he did not make the field yesterday in the weather shortened game. Their starter threw 3 TDs, so my guess is that he will be spending a long time on the side lines. Looks like he traded one situation for an identical one.

Rutgers needs to devote whatever playing time there is behind Kaliakmanis to developing Sheppard and Surace.
Gavin would have just been in the way here.

Brock Vandagriff (starter) was a 5* pro-style QB (#2 in nation) who played 3 years at GA (two title teams in that time). Wimsatt was never expected to compete with him (AK wouldn't either). Coaches know GW can run and they want to use him as change-up to mess with defense. S. Miss was pretty much a walkthrough for Kentucky

Kentucky wasn't going to show all their offense in an easy game, they will use Wimsatt in their hard games. And they paid a lot of money for Vandagriff, there never really was a competition for the starting job.

Exaggerate much? He threw 20 passes at UGA. “Played” is certainly a generous term in this case. He might be a star or he might be another Rettig.

Rettig had a higher ceiling than Laviano. Plus the fans hated Laviano because he was a little cocky and allegedly liked to have fun.

21 passes (including 2 TDs and 0 INTs) on a two-time national title team is 21 more than anyone at RU has on NC title team.

Joe Burrow had 29 passes at Ohio St in first three years

He only played during garbage time man. It’s meaningless. No different than Cole going 7 for 8 and a TD vs OSU. That doesn’t mean he won’t be good - but nothing he did at Georgia means anything. He was a back up who didn’t play. For every Burrow there are just as many Rettig’s maybe more.

Look dude - at some point AK will probably have an off game and then you’ll have your moment to jump in and claim Gavin would’ve run for multiple TDs and avoided any turnovers in the game blah blah. Everyone else will know it’s fantasy, but at least in that situation nobody will be able to prove you wrong for sure.

But following this game - you’d be better off saying nothing because the narratives your trying to create don’t make any sense.

1) Howard isn’t comparable to Wagner, no matter how badly you want them to be. If the two teams played, Howard would win handily 10 out of 10 times.

2) Our wide outs did not do anything special in the game Thursday. We didn’t need more from them, but they also did nothing to stand out relative to last year’s group. At least for this one game - AK did not benefit from some notable upgrade over what Gavin had.

3) Gavin had a handful of good running games but AK had a great day with his legs Thursday by all counts. It’s hard to do much better than converting 1st downs on 5 out of 6 rushes and picking up 9 yards on 2nd and 10 in the other run.

A lot of childish comments on a QB who led us to our first real bowl appearance in a decade. I get it he didn’t have the accuracy you all demand. But grow up, move on and wish the young man all the best.

There is nothing childish about countering someone who continues to provide inaccurate information to support his view that we would be better off with Gavin than our current QB. These aren’t attacks on Gavin rather they are advocation for our new leader.

He led us to a bowl game??? More like he was dragged along by Kyle and the defense. 😂😂😂

yep, so continue acting like a moron and posting stupid names for him, you have justified it to yourself, if it makes you feel better about yourself or witty, then continue pleasing yourself by doing it.

So then compliment the new leader, how does posting something stupid about the ex qbs name affirm the talents of the current quarterback? This thread had nothing to do with the new qb, it is a mix of discussion on his weaknesses which makes sense and then a a few morons with cheap shots…

Whitebus didn’t call him names anywhere in this string. He wasn’t the OP. There’s a difference between responding to provide context to posts propping up Gavin’s accomplishments vs. picking on him. There are reasons that AK won QB1 in spring camp. If it’s “childish” to provide context around Gavin’s achievements (which serves as support for the way training camp went down), it’s certainly just as inappropriate of folks like Ashokan to minimize anything good that our new QB does comparative to GW. I don’t get it.

Looks like we have a Karen on here when it comes to Gavin Wimsatt. Nobody did anything but him last season as he led this team to a bowl game like he was Superman. The defenders of Gavin are certainly a weird bunch. Keep singing his praises.

It’s very strange to me that so many fans see it as an attack on Gavin when things that our replacement seems to be doing better are pointed out. It’s like some folks are looking for every little mistake AK might make to justify the possibility that maybe we made the wrong choice.

The comments on the thread with every throw from AK are particularly astounding. We’re seriously going to label a 3rd quarter throwaway made while falling to the ground to avoid a sack a “miss”. Ok sure, maybe if Caleb Williams was the incumbent, but in the world we’re coming from all last season, a “miss” would be defined as a point blank inaccurate throw made without pressure to a wide open receiver sometimes in the flats to a guy a few feet away. Saying as much is not picking on Gavin - it’s pointing out the improvement and reason for optimism. Geez

So why was he so quick to defend himself. You must have missed this

Actually should be changed to Wim-sit.

I have no issue on the discussion itself. Was just pointing out quite a few feeling good by taking cheap shots as well.

Certainly the OP. Yes. I’m just saying that if anything, the comments by Ashokan and the like are worse because they take direct and indirect shots at our current QB - the one still on our roster who won the starting role fair and square.

Kid has all the tools including a good arm and legs.
He lacks savvy and decision making intangibles that can’t be taught no matter how many reps you get.

I don't think the OP took a cheap shot. He offered his opinion that Gavin would not be starting for Kentucky, similar to his situation at Rutgers. There was no insult or name-calling. The difference for Gavin is he is close to home and has a chance to start fresh and prove himself on a new team. I wish him well and hope he finds success for the 100th time.

I was never against GW being upgraded - my point was RU's proven inability to develop QBs, and to always blame the players. If coach doesn't like dual-threat QBs then dont recruit one. Plus GW has been acknowledged by Kentucky as a long ball thrower but RU insists on dinks and dunk to sidelines in flats. RU had horrible WR crew in 2023 - vastly better now. GW should have gone to ND, Oregon, Michigan etc but his fam loved GS.

I saw AK in RU player podcast and he's likeable fellow with some skills. I dont root for players to fail because my view isn't about the players. RU and Minn are both known for "safe" offenses that need excellent defenses to win games.
