Dingle, you seem to like to go much deeper into the science of covid than most. What is your take on the high rate of breakthrough cases in countries with the highest rates of vaccination, such as israel, Gibraltar, and Iceland? They all average over 1.5 doses per person.
I read somewhere that the vaccine helps the body produce a certain type of antibody, which is more prevalent in the lower parts of the lung (could have been lungs in general) and is less prevalent in the upper parts like nose and esophagus.
They went on to say that those that get really sick are those where Covid penetrated the lower part. This is why some people are still catching Covid, but aren’t getting as sick. It’s staying in the upper respiratory system.

could be a load of crap, but made sense

I stopped reading after “I read somewhere.”

Yes, and it’s not a vaccine.. more of a flu shot.

I got the Moderna shots, but I’m not a blind idiot that thinks that makes me COVID proof.
That's what I thought which is why I don't understand Bingo's outrage against those who choose not to get vaccinated.

Maybe he is, but is he really that worried for those who choose not to get vaccinated?

I'm thinking he's actually concerned about those who are already vaccinated thinking that only those who are unvaccinated are able to re-spread Covid to those who took the steps to get vaccinated. This is the line of thinking a guy I office with has anyway. He comes off as believing that if 3 people are in a room, 1 vaccinated & 2 unvaccinated (1 not able to get vaccinated), only the unvaccinated individual can give Covid to other unvaccinated. Which is clearly untrue.

Vaccine, shot, whatever. While I agree with you, I'm not going to debate the proper terminology to those who are extreme about the subject.

Unvaxed is his new bogeyman. Biden promised a lot.. couldn’t deliver, so now he has to blame someone. It’s a defense mechanism because he doesn’t want to face facts that Biden is a terrible president.

Don't think for yourself, don't follow research; submit bigots! We need to do all the things that failed last time! Never question the Supreme experts just because they've been wrong before. Do what you are told! It's un-American to rebel, we've totally never done it before...

I would rather take and did take Moderna's. 2nd choice was Pfizer's. 3rd J&J. It seems clear that J&J's causes more inflammation and resultant negative reactions. Still it is thousands of times safer than getting the virus. When you design a vaccine to be a single dose immunization you have to make it elicit a stronger inflammatory effect. The inflammatory reaction is what makes vaccines produce immunity. With all of the vaccines, I'm hoping that they're able to add some of the new strains so that we can get boostered soon to give us protection against the variants. JMO.
Thanks. Since all of this started , you have been the most well rounded and informative of posters on this whole thing in my opinion. Very much to the point without the extreme fear mongering of a few others. I appreciate your insights.

Thanks. I try to be unemotional and try to not let politics skew my view of what is going on. I'm not the expert on COVID, but it appears clear that most if not all of the "experts" who make policy and tweet "data" aren't experts either. People get too dug in to their emotional or political views and it makes for bad analysis and decision making. Kevin Warren did that with his "the decision has been made and we won't be revisiting it" quote last fall. We just need to remember that there are things that influence numbers on charts and we need to be able to look at the data while keeping in mind what went in to making those numbers.

Now we're all dead. Climate change and covid are teaming up.

No doubt airway irritation from smoke made some people sicker than they might have been but there's no way in hell that it "caused more cases". The San Francisco Chronicle is a rag.

This is brutal. Authors probably don't have enough letters behind their names though.

One of the problems with Corona virus vaccine in felines is ADE. There is some evidence of a similar reaction in horses vaccinated for equine influenza. That said, most of the people I know who volunteered for the trials were medical professionals who understood that. They also understood that their risk for ADE was much lower than the odds for getting sick from getting infected without being vaccinated. No doubt there were a lot of people who entered the trials without sufficient medical knowledge to make informed decisions. That said, the actual number of people who experience ADE after vaccination is EXTREMELY small. That number is way smaller than the number of young people who get seriously ill from COVID.

It's obviously garbage, but I wonder why they're worried if they all wore masks?

I think the main point, a significant point with the vaccines and the policy people are pushing, is the ethical and moral issues.

The govt and many in the medical community have shown time and time again to be immoral and unethical.

How much longer do you think we deal with this to where it just becomes another "flu" or "cold" type virus and we stop talking about it?
If our government ever gets its act together, we will get out front with preventative care. Ivermectin should be easy to buy over the counter. We need a reliable home test for covid that's inexpensive.

My fear is that the government is going to mandate vaccines for everyone twice per year. Our vaccine for this virus is an unmitigated disaster. I hope they start following the science soon.

As we have seen, being shut down does not slow the spread.
Our leaders are so stupid. Virus is going to virus. How they think they can get their arms around this blows my mind. Just let it do its thing. Lock up the old people.

These loons are so desperate for a climate change lockdown next. They're not going to be happy until 95% of the people on the Earth are dead. Not until then can mother Earth breathe a sigh of relief to have gotten rid of her own covid parasites.

This does not inspire confidence.

Would vaccine manufacturers have made their vaccine differently if they weren't given blanket immunity?

So if Vax you can still mutate the virus same as non Vax? I appreciate the information and have heard that non Vax are to blame for mutations/variants which didn’t make sense.
The mutation of the virus has nothing to do with whether or not the host is vaccinated. The THEORY is that the host human who is vaccinated against the original strain fights off the virus associated with the vaccine strain thus selecting for a mutated strain. That seems like awfully weird science to me. In my 35+ years I've never seen that proposed anywhere else with viruses.

Is that as weird as everyone being told masks don't work for the last 100 years and people rarely if ever wearing them, having top govt officials say masks don't work, and then the govt putting mask mandates in place?

And really that's just scratching the surface on the "weird science" we can get into from the last 2 years.
