I can't stand this guy. I hope he never gets fired from Pedd State because he's a terrible head coach. They will start crashing and burning this year.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. He is acting like Penn State is the real victim in this! He knew what job he was taking when he took it. The NCAA drop all sanctions. There is zero excuses now. He reminds me of a used car salesman.

He's clearly setting up his argument that he shouldn't be fired regardless of results. Also, I think, if the opinion is that PSU is still "recovering," the job will be less desirable and even more reason not to fire him. I get the sense that this is what he's good at; selling, politics, talking, etc vs those things + being a great football coach.

Look, you can't blame Franklin. This is what's called "paving the road" (among other aphorisms). He's setting up his network of excuses for all of his future failures. When his team continues to suck it on the field and recruiting drops off, he'll be on the record as having predicted it - that it's all the fault of those mean old other schools that refuse let go of the whole Sandusky thing.

FWIW, insiders on other sites have confirmed the negative recruiting against PSU is a real problem, so Franklin isn't just making it up. That said, some of it could have been avoided had PSU not ended the season on a losing streak, and I'm not sure what coaches actually accomplish by talking about these things on the record. I suppose they're trying to spread the word to prospects that what they're hearing is just that, negative recruiting that isn't necessarily true, but that message could just as easily be spread not via the media.

Insiders on sites have also said that James Franklin isn't exactly on the up & up recruiting wise either (i.e. claiming Rutgers coaches were racist, I believe).

To be clear, I'm referring to people who work for the sites, not "insider" fans/posters, but regardless, I have no RU premium subs so I wouldn't be privy to those reports. I'm also not commenting whether Franklin's being hypocritical or not, just that the negative recruiting against PSU has been an issue. Personally, I know it's all part of the game, so IMO you just deal with it and move on.

Yeah, we at Rutgers have never had to deal with negative recruiting. Fricking Flood used negative recruiting to squeeze an extra two years onto his contract & $800,000 onto his buyout. Maybe Jimmy can ask his buddy Kyle for tips on how to handle a fact of life in recruiting.

2012: 25th (Schiano/Hafley's last class, that Flood kept intact)
2013: 43rd
2014: 57th
2015: 53rd
2016: 73rd (Flood's last class amidst arrests and subterfuge, that Ash added made some minor changes to)

To be clear to you, I'm referring to the head of NCAA recruiting he said Franklin uses unethical practices while recruiting players. Often using race and slanderous remarks about rival schools. So there. You see how this works I just one upped you. Do you believe I know the head of NCAA recruiting of course not. Do I believe you know anybody, but McAndrew or one of your biased site moderators NO.

You come on here and state it as fact that others are doing it but have no substantial evidence that Franklin is, but yet supply no solid evidence to support that fact. Here's your evidence one of the guys who runs a site(probably one of your dysfunctional board moderators) says we are being negatively recruited against. That's really the evidence your going to go with to support your claim. You really expect us to believe your claims that I don't know if Franklin does it, but everybody else is doing it to us.

I was simply relaying that staff of other sites (and no, not BWI, because I don't subject myself to that lunacy) have referenced that there is plenty of negative recruiting going on as it relates to PSU. These people cover recruiting objectively and have no allegiance to PSU. If you'd like you can put up the $10, or get a free trial, and read for yourself. I have no reason to make things up anonymously to prove points against other anonymous people I'll never actually meet. Feel free to keep getting worked up over every PSU-related comment, though.

EDITED TO ADD, I'm not sure I can trust your accusations about Franklin speaking poorly about "rival" schools, because as we all know, PSU is #unrivaled.

I started nothing. You came on here claiming to have 2nd hand knowledge that others were negatively recruiting against psu. At the same time claiming that you really didn't know if Franklin did it or not. Yet the only facts you presented were your 2nd hand hearsay. I was simply pointing out why should anyone believe an anonymous poster who has a track record of defending Holy St. Joe and psu. You specifically came on here to defend the honor of your dear old coach this time. You came here to prove a point to RU fans that you know it's a fact, he's being negatively recruited against and that the article is not whining. So yes you did have a reason to make things up, to prove to us what he's saying is factual and not simply whining. LOL. I was passing on information from objective sources related to the discussion in this thread. Feel free to believe it, disbelieve it, ignore it, whatever. I don't get a commission for you believing me, so it's all good. And, in fact, I did question why he'd mention it publicly. Something can be true and be perceived as whining, you know. Whenever a psu thread comes up you're always there to defend the honor of psu. And in a lot of cases give RU a back handed slight. Congratulations Captain Vega you saved the day for Crappy Valley. Who gives a **** if PSU is negatively recruited against? Even if you don't consider that slithering reptilian slimebag of a coach they have, (who deserves to be negatively recruited against) the program itself deserves to be negatively recruited against. Their fans support a program that covered up child rape in order to facilitate football glory, so I'd be forever happy if the PSU program dies on the vine and never recovers.
