TE/DE/LS I miss playing a lot. I lived vicariously through my son who was a WR in a spread offense. When I played it was ground and pound. Wish I could have played in the current era of wide open offenses. Oh well

QB in the good ole triple option. 4 year starter, that's why I'm a moron. Took too many shots to the melon. We weren't very big but we sure were slow.

Were you the poster here who was once explaining that the way to stop the option in red zone was with aggressive DTs?

Nose guard is the key anyplace on the field to shutting down the triple option. If he can't be handled one on one by the center he creates havoc. The timing of the whole play is mess up when he gets penetration. If a DT gets penetration then the QB can pitch early or give to fb before getting to the DT. Nose guard pushes whole play deeper and slower giving the rest of the defense one more step to stopping it.

Thanks that makes sense. Today I was listening to Carl Banks (LB with Giants during LT era) talking about how to stop the Ravens offense. Many commentators call the Ravens offense "revolutionary" which never made sense to me as someone who goes to most Army home games. Banks finally said the same thing, calling the offense "classic" and a "throwback."He said DCs need to do their research on stopping the option, and he specifically mentioned DT play. He said there cant be hesitation about how the play would unfold, and that a DT had to commit to attacking the mesh and hitting the QB early. That would force the QB to. declare intentions early and avoid getting hit (and risking fumbles etc). Often you hear people say to play option you must "stay home" and that makes sense, but it can imply passivity when you really need some aggression. In any case I was remembering someone here from Nebraska talking about attacking DL.

See Ramel Meekins, Rutgers-Navy 2006.

I strongly believe the key to shutting down the triple option is to take away the fullback dive, then have your ends and a linebacker key the QB (hit him cleanly every play they can) and the DB's/ quicker LB's play the outside pitch. Once you take away the dive, it's a matter of discipline and outside contain...and conversely if the fullback dive isn't in check, goodnight Irene (see Kyle Eckel, Rutgers-Navy 2004)

Wait, you're Reggie Bush?!
Started playing FB in 4th grade and like many posters have already stated, have had concussions and even played in a game that I couldn't recall. Weird watching the tape of that game. Back in the day, you could use your helmet as a weapon and I was guiltier than most with my huge noggin.

They do a better job protecting players nowadays. HS coach had me play both ways and on all special teams. Had an open field catch in the second half, but was run down from behind due to cramping from dehydration. Had to request coach to get me off some of the special teams so I could get off the field to get a drink. Coach was no Chris Ash.

Played most positions, but not lineman, unless you consider Tight End / Split End or DE / OLB a lineman.

Who here was a big dumb lineman?
D lineman. I was way too small to play the line but I loved it. Was only 180 lbs but was decently quick for a lineman. If I could a avoid getting steamed trolled at the snap, was good at chasing down backs and QB’s. Way better baseball player but absolutely loved playing football. And I was lucky bc my team was pretty good and blew a lot of teams out so I played plenty in garbage time.

Played OT and DT in Pop Warner. Does that count?

Limited HS career was at TE and DE/LB where I got moved around because I wasn't very good at any.

HS QB/Safety (Lots of option football in those days. Could only throw the ball about 30 yards.)

HS: WR/DB/ and punt return.
Not fast enough to play in college.

RB/FS.

Barely played.

Fantastic experience though.

Miss it all the time.

It amazing that so many teams now cant even get an offense and defense without making kids play both ways. We used to have 75 guys tryout. Now coaches beg people to play

Yes-Millbrook.
I moved in 2nd grade but my brothers played for the Mustangs.
Do you know what year that league ended? It was super organized

Not sure what year it ended.
Once I got to junior high, I no longer paid attention. (Never played)

Played Pop Warner and wherever they could best hide me.

So some safety(very rarely did teams pass the ball) and TE.

One game in a blowout win I got some play some RB and inside LB and was able to make bunch of tackles which was fun.

In my first season coaches had to find me on the sidelines late in the game to get my minimum snaps played, went in as safety and was able to knock down a pass to help preserve the shutout. Made the news paper.

Never played HS, in part cause a good friend of mine who was good went to a different HS, also in part because the travel to school was not happening as my mom was a single parent.

I wish it were an option, they only began play club hockey in my last year of HS.
Yeah my high school didn't have a team until after I graduated. I just played in local leagues until I got to Rutgers and joined the roller hockey team which sadly no longer exists.

Center. Seems to be a lot of us here! Got recruited by John Bateman to play at Rutgers, and by several Ivies, until they saw my grades. Decided to have fun in college instead of playing football, so I went to Ohio U which was rated the number one party school in America. Best choice I ever made!

I was a big dumb lineman, but I played for Princeton, so maybe my position was strongside oxymoron.
