OT: Water Wells

Anyone know of any reputable water well drillers who service Madison County. I’ve come to learn they are a territorial bunch.

I had a buddy who also got really sad about not finding a well digger, so I sent him a Get Well Soon card. In my experience, they are boring people. After all, it's the only job where you start at the top and work your way to the bottom.

Find your nearest poultry farmer and ask who dug theirs. I was told a few years ago they have to have a backup well in case the community water went down. I guess 10 million dead chickens is not good for the bottom line.

CMU (canton municipal utilities) engineer said I’d roughly be looking at $24,000 to extend the line 900ft and then charge me for monthly water usage….with that said $8 - $10k doesn’t sound bad.

10 grand sounds cheap honestly. Just depends on where you are and how far they have to go to get to the aquifer.

My current house i purchased in 2015 came with a residential well that was dug when it was built in 2004 only to service a 2.5 acre sprinkler system. I had to have it pulled in 2019 by the same man who dug it....he said he charged $3500 back then....he told me in 2019 that IF, and it was a BIG IF, someone wanted a residential well dug, that it would be damn near impossible to get the permits to do so, and IF someone could get it, it would be $30K....(in 2019 dollars).....this is in Oxford, MS....the well guy was from Grenada.

so yeah, 10K sounds very cheap....if you can get it for that, I'd jump all over it.

I deal with this in my line of work, you need to call the NRCS. The post earlier in this thread about calling Poultry Farmers … that was correct; they get their wells placed and approved from NRCS. Local Health Departments Regulate. Those facilities get actually permitted through my agency.
