Ok, so let me preface by saying that Watchmen the movie is one of my favorite comic movies of all time. Loved the grittiness, loved the premise, and it was just phenomenal writing from start to finish.

I've now gotta ask though... WTF is going on with this show? I wasn't at all expecting the immediate race war narrative or the general weirdness to be honest. I can deal with a little strangeness, but this thing just seems to be completely off the rails weird.

Is this how the actual graphic novel plays out? Is anyone enjoying it?

I've tried but it sucks.

Really looked forward to the series. I’ve watched all episodes. Continuing just to see where it goes. Really don’t like what they’ve done with Rorshack. Not sure how much longer I’ll hang on.

The series follows more along the lines of the graphic novel and NOT the movie. The movie changed the story a little and deviated from the novel. It’s not for everybody but I do like it.

I love it. It's a sequel to the graphic novel, not the movie.

Every time Jermy Irons is on screen, it's stellar.

The most recent episode is probably my favorite so far, LG's story is really compelling.

its been very disappointing. im sick of all the divisiveness and it seems forced. just a weird trajectory based on the movie (havent read the comics). and set in Tulsa? just not much going on for the show

The show is not an adaptation of the comic, it's a new story in the same universe, 34 years after the 1985 events of Watchmen. If you've only seen the movie, it's pretty faithful to the comic with the primary change being that the comic didn't have a nuclear blast hit Manhattan, it had a psychic squid that wreaked devastation, which was (like the nuke in the movie) a plot by Ozymandias that was covered up by the other surviving characters. The only characters (so far) that have carried over are Laurie (Juspecyk) Blake, Adrian Veidt, and of course Dr. Manhattan is out there somewhere still unseen. Everything else is new.

HBO has a website where they're adding in-universe documentation with each episode that helps to explain the context between the original comic and the present. It's worth checking out: https://www.hbo.com/peteypedia

I am a big fan

The setting is post squid and takes place in the same universe just a few decades down the road. Robert Redford is now president. And Atticus/Reznor music has been phenomenal. Some of the best sound/screen action I've recently.

I’ve never read the graphic novels nor watched the movie but I’m enjoying the series. Don’t have a clue what some of it is about but the characters are captivating enough to keep me looking forward to it.
I’d have liked to see Don Johnson’s character hang around a little longer.

I haven't watched the movie, read the comics, or even heard of the watchmen as a concept before this HBO series.
I have 0 knowledge coming into this series.

Its confusing as 17 and really odd. The characters are compelling enough to keep me looking forward to Sunday evenings.
Shameless + Silicon Valley + Watchmen = good sunday night of tv.

I've seen the movie, but have no other background knowledge of The Watchmen... The show is confusing as 17, and I have to read synopsis' after every episode to fully understand what I've watched, but I'm enjoying it.

Just watched episode 5 last night, and I thought it was probably the best of the series so far.

I may get blasted for this, but the character that’s dragging it down the most for me is that weird *** Ozymandias. Granted, as I’m assuming he’s the central villain, I guess they have to give him screen time, but I roll my eyes every time they break away from an interesting part of the show to go back to his stupid castle.

I’m gonna keep watching because it does at least feel like a lot of this is going to all smartly tie together by the end of the season

Looking Glass is enough alone to keep me interested. I was a little turned off in the beginning with all of the race war stuff, but the last episode was great. It's definitely confusing at times, but I'm sure they'll start answering some of the questions.

The graphic novel is one of my favorite books. The graphic novel ending was so, so much better than the movie - and I'm not one of those "the book is always better than the movie" people.

I hated the first two episodes of the show because it wasn't tied into the novel story other than the loosely tied race war Rorschach stuff and Ozymandias. I actually loved the Ozymandias parts, but they'd be extremely confusing to anyone who didn't read the book. The series got significantly better with episode 3 because it cut down on all the race **** and introduced Laurie Blake, who's a great character. Episode 4 stepped it up again by introducing Lady Trieu. I'm watching Episode 5 now.

This is one of those situations where I'd just spend 3 hours reading the graphic novel before watching the show. I think it's a legitimate top 25 book of the 20th century, and it'd make the show much more enjoyable.

This. If you just saw the movie and never read the novels (me), this series will probably baffle you. I just read some cliffs notes to catch up. Last two episodes have me looking forward to it.

By the way, what's up with stealing the Halloween Mike Myers music?
