So, I started a thread a couple of weeks ago about best record players. I'm curious and wanted to "Ask the Pack" what are your most treasured vinyls? What do you recommend owning?

Ray Charles.. whichever album you like.
Those are must. I am not a true audiophile, but I I have a little Technics turntable. And a half price books down the street that sells records cheap. I like big sounds in vinyl.
This is almost embarrassing to admit, but the biggest difference in any song I listen to from vinyl to digital is Toto's Africa. Sounds like a damn orchestra concert for the ages on vinyl.

Absolutely both of those, especially Dark Side. If you can find a 30th Anniversary version somewhere, it's a great pressing to start with.
Wish You Were Here is another great Pink Floyd album to have on vinyl.
I haven't heard any of of the new Floyd LP reissues, but you can get remastered versions of all their albums on 180 gm vinyl now.
As for other stuff, I'm a fan of high quality jazz vinyl. If you don't have any favorite jazz artists but are interested in picking up a few jazz records, take a look at these Blue Note reissues. Among those, the Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Ike Quebec, and John Coltrane records are mostly solid, as are a couple of the Hank Mobley records and Idle Moments by Grant Green. Miles Davis' stuff late 50s and early 60s stuff would be a safe bet for vinyl, too, like Kind of Blue and Round About Midnight. (In a Silent Way is late 60s and is getting slightly more spacey/acid-jazz, but sounds incredible on vinyl too.)
I have a Lynyrd Skynyrd Street Survivors album with the flames on the cover that I picked up several years ago. The album was released shortly before the plane crash and re-released shortly after without the flames.
As much music as I listen to, I feel like an *** even asking this question... but what are the pros for vinyl albums versus a digital copy? Does it sound better or is it more about the collector side of it, or both?

I have a 45 of Devo that has "Whip It" (of course) on side A. Not crazy about that overplayed song. The reason I kept it was because of the song on side B which was "Turn Around" which is a very good song, but they never released on any album for whatever reason. Nirvana did an excellent cover of the song which I now like better since they dropped the keyboards and just played it in a 3 piece "punk/grunge" style. I believe the album was "incesticide" that they released it on and there is a youtube clip of them covering it in a club before they became super famous.
I also have my parents vinyl of Jackson 5, Creedance, Kenny Rogers & the 1st Ed, Donna Summer, REO Speedwagon, and ...........yes........even the Village People. My prized 8 track is The Cars "Candy O".

In reality, unless you are an avid audiophile and have a nice home stereo system, it's difficult to tell a significant difference. The nicer speaker/amp/preamp you have, the more difference it will make. Remember though, a crappy record is going to give crappy, scratchy sound. A good record is the highest audio quality you can have.
One thing I like with my system is that records create a sound stage. With only 2 speakers playing, you will hear the singer coming from the center. Everyone who has ever listened to it has said the center channel is on, but it is not. At the beginning of "Thriller" I can hear him walk across the stage. Its awesome.
Further, a digital download is a compressed file and decreases the quality from a cd significantly. If you don't have a record player, buy the CD.
We used to care about audio quality. The problem was records aren't portable. So we had the 8 track, the cassette tape, and finally made a big increase in portable sound quality with a CD. Then, we just said screw it, and got mp3s. Now, we seem to be going back to vinyl. Records also can become very valuable. No CD or mp3 download will ever be worth anything significant.

I have it wrapped in a cellophane protective sleeve. I am 12" vinyl poor though. I only saved about 650 from my collection.

It’s similar to tube amps vs digital signal amps. Vinyl, and vacuum tubes in amps, provides a much warmer sound that digital does. Gives albums much more of a “studio sound” than their digitally-processed and compressed counterpart. You lose a lot of the sound in a song when it is processed digitally. Vinyl captures all sounds and is generally thought to be the most complete way to hear music.
