Here are the starters for tonight. I agree with Berhalter tonight. Play a good game and the result matters less. They need to play well going into Copa next week.

No M Robinson again. Is he hurt? Fallen into disfavor? He was, IMO, our best defender prior to the last WC.

That lineup may well wind up struggling again at the back. OTOH, if that's what they have to play the Copa with, then I guess they better get as much time together as possible beforehand.

I suspect GB will tinker with the lineup tonight more than in a game that matters. But let's see what happens. if the mids/fwds gel, maybe he'll leave it alone until the 60th minute.

I like Miles but Richards is also a Prem League starter so no slouch.
He's a defensive mid though in the EPL. And had some really strong showings. He and Adams when healthy protecting the back has some appeal.

The Brazil game? If I remember correctly Brazil was a guest entry into the gold cup.

I don't care how good he can be stopping shots. Turner just cannot be the starting goalie in matches that matter.

GB has been asking for more combination-play in the final third. That’s what is needed here to get better shot opportunities. Brazil is showing weakness at the back, same as us. Gotta do more than 1v1 in the final third.

Couple things.

1. Reyna’s lack of pace is problematic. I still think, to use him, the US might need to drop a forward and play 4-4-2. Would be 4-3-1-2 with Reyna being the attacking center mid with little or no defensive responsibility.

2. Brazil’s players are really tactically aware and intelligent. Tough on defenders when the opponent can so shift the attack around so quickly and smoothly. It’s great fun to watch.

I will say, this may be the highest quality of play I’ve seen from a USMNT team vs Brazil. They do seem to be a bit on cruise control, keeping their equanimity despite some US success against their D.

We may see them a bit more aggressive attacking the left side (their left, our right) of our D in this half.

On #1 I'm with you. To me, between him and Puli, one starts. And that has to be Puli in his current form.

He’s a fantastic, talented player. But at a high level of completion, pace is key. It can be worked around, long as the other players around him have exceptional pace.

When the new coach came in didn't he play CB?

That was just an example of what I mean when I say our backs cannot play well into the attack. Great backs would’ve bent that pass for a scoring opportunity.

People love to bash GB. But I think he deserves some credit for a well-coached game tonight. Brazil was the better team. But the US played a well-organized game, and overcame some mental mistakes by players, earn the draw.

The players played very hard tonight. Great effort. Team-wide work rate was strong.

Bring that game to the tournament and they’ll clear group play easily, IMO.

Nice result and well played.

Nope. Turner's a good shot stopper. He's also a mistake waiting to happen in distribution. What happened on the first goal?
It wasn't that bad. Turnovers like that happen and we had plenty of defenders back to repel their attack. Other than that, Turner was brilliant in goal, with numerous good to great saves and not giving up rebounds.
