Huskies win vs Xavier, 6-4, in game 1 to force the doubleheader and a winner take all. Good job again by the starter, this time a normal bullpen guy Thomas Ellisen who went 4+ innings (O walks/5 K's) giving up only 1 earned run, The bullpen of Fogell (crazy 77 pitch outing/ after 47 on WED) and Willis closed it out. Looks like the lefties Sears and Fogell will be the only pitchers not available for game 2 and the BE championship. ( besides TE starter)

Other key plays in 6-4 win.

HUSKIES SPEED has Xavier shook and then the Rhino powers one through the strong winds!

Willis comes in bases loaded in the 8th for the DP.

The team as a whole needs to start pitching better. As you pointed out above:
I guess it was to good to be true, Uconn leading 3-2 going into the 9th.... after a great effort from the opener, then the long reliever, Garrett Cole (1 run in 5 2/3 with 0 walks 4 K's).

But enter the closer Willis to finish out the Championship ( he did close game 1), and he starts the 9th with a HBP, Walk, Triple, Sac Fly...Then 3 more walks from the next pitcher after Penders has to pull his "Closer" and 7-3 is the final. Big game for Xavier because they were first 4 out in NCAA's, ranked #47 in RPI. ( PS Uconn's "clutch" hitting was terrible as they left the bases loaded with nada 2-3 times once or twice w/ 0 outs.

Guess the home field advantage Xavier has every year @ the BE baseball championship in Ohio finally paid off, with an auto bid..... Uconn will find out on ESPN2.. where they're heading.

Huskies being no hit threw 5 inns, by a lefty with a 88-90mph fastball and good control... but he has them chasing alot of bad pitches.

Huskies pitching did it's job but lose 3-2 , as the bats couldn't get going...2 runs on just 3 hits....

BTW ... Reggie is back pitching again after missing all of last year @ Uconn with TJ surgery. I guess he's gonna try his Ohtani impression on his way up in the minors.

...after using it's 3 best pitchers in the 3-2 loss. Add to that the projected BE pitcher of the year Cooke is out injured ( has been on & off) and the lefty starter Spears has now come up with Mono. Probably the 2nd best bullpen arm Kirby looks injured too.
Well Kirby was back today after he was taken out when he only threw 4 pitches in game #2 in the BE tourney last Thursday and was never used again. He went 4 innings today for the W. Huskies are in a win 3 / lose 1 and they're out scenario. Garrett Coe one of the main arms in the bullpen ( only 6 starts ) will open tomorrow @ Noon. Huskies have only 1 more pitcher who's started this year if they can stay alive.

Also another Rhino sighting!

Elimination game for two Top 10 teams. Gators are ranked # 2 in the country as the NCAA committee stuck it to #10 Uconn by placing them on the road vs. #2 when there are 16 first round brackets. Game at Noon on SEC Network and ESPN+
