Uconn BB opens tonight, with the 1st of a bunch of long road trips ( FLA x2, CALI x2 and Hawaii ). They bring back 5 position players who started ( w/ a new group of week-end starters on the mound)......A total of 8 new players from the portal should see roles too.
Also premiering is a new streaming service (UConn +) for 21 Husky home games.

Huskies finish up their far west trip that covered just shy of 11,000 miles, by taking another 3 out of 4 games, this time in Cali with 3 games of 10 + runs. They finally get back to Storrs for the home opener vs. UMass on WED (3:05 p.m), which can be seen on the new digital channel,

Huskies took the Home Opener, 7-3

Game highlights and full replays can be seen free on UCONN +......Joe D. mentioned all Uconn home game will be able to seen free this year on the channel ( it can be also downloaded on streaming devices like ROKU ) Which is a great option for Uconn fans compared to the $30 a month FLO Sports was charging the last few years.

The 2, 3, and 4 batters, Freeberger, Huber, and Studley, are seriously raking. Studley, living up to his surname, has an OBP of .429 while the other 2 are at .486 and .490 respectively. Freeberger also has 2 scoreless innings of pitching. Freeberger leads the team in HRs with 5, but has that very high OBP and is batting where he should.

Huskies ended it early (7 inn) with the 10 run mercy rule. Good bounce back after the tough loss vs. BC.
Week-end 3 game schedule vs. UMBC ( 1 in Hartford on SAT) up next.

I wish they would play some better teams. Their schedule is full of light weights. Where are teams like Tennessee, Oregon State, Stanford, Texas, Arizona State? Let's play some big boys. You want a big boy program, you gotta play with the big boys.

Wrong......Welcome to North East CBB, you think your gonna get mid week games vs southern and western teams ? ......In a low revenue sport ? Even the big money Big Ten ( you know Uconn beat their champion Maryland in the NCAA's) teams don't get those schedules. Because they pick you, you don't pick them.....since they have plenty of scheduling choices right in their own neighborhoods.

PS, the biggest loser in the Big East return move was Uconn Baseball by far, since the AAC annually had much higher ranked baseball teams to play in conference.

better teams.
BTW.....Current RPI ----Uconn #20 ......#7 BC, #17 Northeastern & #35 Rutgers (all on Uconn's schedule) are the only 3 Northeast teams in the top 35 ( BE's next highest is Xavier @ #26 )

Coming up this week is the BE opener @ St, Johns (#97 )

Huskies take game #1 at Xavier, with back to back homers in the 7th, then the bullpen shuts the door for the 7-6 win !.... also got a pair of HR from ECSU transfer Broadhurst who leads the team (.382) and is tied for HR (8)

Uconn takes the series 2 games to 1 with an exciting nightcap. They trailed 1st place Xavier after giving up a 7-6 lead allowing 3 runs late. Trailing 9-7 in their last at bat, the Huskies hit a pair of 2 run homers to take game 2 of the double header 11-9. ( Xavier announcers seemed so shocked they didn't even know what inning it was, LOL)

First it was Jake Studley:

Followed by Ryan Daniels the FR from Meriden, CT hitting his 1st:

Up this week (#16) Uconn plays 5 games, 4 @ Elliot BP in Storrs. With the mid-week games vs. the 2 best teams in the northeast...( #48 Rutgers who Uconn swept 3 games earlier, is the only other top 50)

Week starts TUE (6:05pm) vs. #47 Northeastern (28-7), then WED @ #18 Boston College (24-11). After last weeks series win at #46 Xavier, Uconn gets back to Big East action by hosting Georgetown for 3 games starting FRI (6:05pm) .
