How on EARTH have I missed these guys? I've seen them mentioned by some of y'all in music threads in the past and always had them marked as a group to check out, but never made the time. I finally did this week (thank you Spotify Premium).
Honestly, theirs is some of the best music I've ever heard, and I'm a bit hard to REALLY impress when it comes to music. Some of their songs are just painfully deep and emotional....whoever does their song writing is just incredible. If you haven't given them a shot yet, hurry up and do so. You're cheating yourself.

Thanks, Pack.

Also worth checking out: John Fullbright

He's a past member of Turnpike Troubadors and is excellent. Great songwriter. While we are on Oklahoma talent - might as well throw out John Moreland. Also worth a listen. These guys have some pretty deep tunes so I wouldn't try them out if you are in peppy mood.

Turnpike is from a town real close to me so they perform all the time around the area. They're great live and know how to put on a good show. Their music is awesome. Highly recommend going to see them play

I didn't know he was a former Turnpike member? I like John Moreland too. They're similar.

Checked out Fullbright today. Great suggestion. Jericho is a fantastic tune.

Moreland tomorrow, hopefully.

They're all from around eastern Oklahoma. Around Tahlequah and Muskogee area. Before they blew up they put on small shows in local bars and have performed several times at George's in Fayetteville. Always had a huge turnout from the locals.

I think the Hoodoo Gurus sang this song back when I was in high school. Only they called it "Hayride to Hell".

Kidding, these guys sound great. Brought back some fond(le) memories too.

You said Hoodoo Gurus.....Haven't thought of them in a while. I saw them in the old gym in 89 or 90 and they were awesome! The Smithereens played there too. We used to have some great shows back then on campus.

Worked w/ music makers for that concert. Got a Smithereens guitar pic out of the deal.

Did the Gurus open for the Smithereens when they played at McCarthy?

I had forgotten that. I found my ticket stub for that concert just a few months ago while moving. Funny how not-so-long-ago 27 years can feel.

Agreed. Double Decker in Oxford has a nice lineup the previous week too.

Here is a comprehensive list of things that have convinced me to set foot in Oxford:
MSU football
Lenny Kravitz
Blue Mountain reunion tour kickoff
Son's state soccer championship

The Blue Mountain show was the year (2007) we had punched our ticket to Omaha before UM had even played the first game of their super regional against Arizona State. The show fell right in between. Me and my buddy went up there wearing MSU hats and ASU shirts. The patrons of Proud Larry's were not amused.
