Rams are impressive as new truck. Nice ride and tough but just a little age and they are junk. I have a Sierra now and really like it.

If you're looking to buy used, check out carcomplaints.com - they have good info on what issues to look out for on used vehicles

Got a 2018 Chevy 2500 4x4 back in May and have been pleased. Used to pull a pop up camper in a 4 cyl outback. We purchased a 8k lb camper recently and you'd have no idea it's back there.

Also use as an everyday vehicle and I love it. Key to is buy a 1 yr used low mileage. Let someone else eat the 10k in depreciation.

If you're planning on keeping it for a while, get whatever you think gets you the most bang for your buck. GM & Ford have the best resale bc reasons.

I did and I bought a 2017 Nissan single cab, long bed. I get lots of comments because it looks like the old trucks without the extra door and room behind the seats. It has a towing transmission with another complete set of towing gears in towing mode. If I wanted, I could put a bed hitch and tow a huge trailer.

Gets great gas mileage, has a big V-8 but runs around 20 mph for gas and is almost paid for.

I have a 2010 Tundra 4x4. I've had it for 6 years. Won't consider any other make. Gas mileage isn't great but I knew that going in. Plan to keep it at least another 6 years

Buy GM or Ford if buying a full size 4x4. Dodge depreciation is a killer. Consider Toyota Tundra if a dealer is nearby. I think you might be able to get into a fairly well equipped new GM or Ford for 35-40k. Just saying.

If you want reliability and power, but can live with 15 mpg, Tundra. If you want to work on it all the time, but Ford, Chevy or Dodge.

I just bought a 2014 GMC Sierra with a 6.2L and love it. More than enough power, more than enough room, smooth ride, and good gas mileage.

Test drove several Fords and initially thought that’s what I wanted because they were going to be lighter on the wallet. Test drove a GMC after and quickly noped out of a Ford. Pay a little more and get a GMC.

So much retard in this thread. Some good info also. Sold trucks at the largest truck dealer in the US about 20 years ago.

GMC has best resale, 2= Chevy, 3= Ford, 4 = toyota, Nissan and Dodge are lifers, you drive till death or take a bath.

Best fuel Economy = Dodge, 2 = GMC/Chevy/Ford, Nissan and Toyotas are not good, 15 mpg is generous. And leveling kits reduce MPG, there is a reason they tilt the damn things, wind drag.

Ride comfort, they are all pretty good, as long as you leave wheels stock, if you switch it's a crap shoot. Big mudders sing and dont give that cushy ride either.

All of the manufacturers have had different finagling issues, such as the plastic interior in Dodge, breaking. Popping noises from the rear ends on Chevy/GMC.

Biggest thing RIGHT NOW, don't buy anything that drops cylinders unless you trade by 65k miles. You might get one that goes for 200, most likely you won't.

Best bang for the buck truck for long term owners that dont pull heavy loads! Dodge with the 6 cylinder gas, which gets 28 mpg on the highway and 21 with your boat or side by side behind it.

When to buy! Every month the last 3 days, best Months are usually March and October, bigger rebates. Take all the cash off, get a loan with Ally, and if you have a trade, dont go crazy and drop a deal over a few hundred bucks. You only pay taxes on the difference. So in Mississippi that is 5% tax rate. So $20000 trade on a $50000 new means you only pay taxes on 30000. So your 20k trade is really a 21k trade.

Happy truck buying.

Edit: One last thing, love your family, not your vehicle. Emotion makes you stupid at the dealership.

Each of the Big 3 make a nice truck. Toyota makes a nice truck that isn't butt ugly like the Nissan. I will say this though: keep your eyes open to the number of "one eyed" trucks and SUV's you pass on the highways. 98% of the time, it's a GM product. The new Chevy/GMC's look absolutely fantastic, but if the sumbitches cannot get something as simple as the headlights and day time running lights right, why should I trust they have the drivetrain and suspension right?

Oh, and I second the opinion to buy a lightly used 1 to 2 year old truck. Allow the original owner to eat the depreciation on an insanely overpriced vehicle.

Bought a new, top-of-the-line Toyota 4runner years ago. Started having a couple of intermittent problems. They wouldn't even lift the hood until somebody in the Toyota family was in it when it malfunctioned. Said that way "they would know how to fix it." Of course their real reason was so they would know I wasn't lying. Took them to arbitration and the BBB made them buy it back.

I too work there and actually the new gen titan looks good to me with the right package. The new frontiers are slated to come out late next year. I know we’re supposed to start doing trial runs sometime next year and from what I’ve been told is that they are supposed to somewhat resemble the titan. They have been needing to do and upgrade as the frontier looks virtually the same since ‘05.
Complete, unabashed, unwillingness to look into complaints during warranty was a MAJOR complaint I had about Toyota in early 2000s. I haven’t gone back. GM wasn’t much better with my Sierra. That’s a real turn off. So far, Ford has been a little better.

I don’t think one make is any better than another. They all have their issues. If I were buying one that already had 150k on it, it’d be Toyota.

I buy new every 3-4 years and don’t feel that depreciation at all with GMs once I’m ready to trade. Ram is a different story, though.

I agree. I looked pretty hard at lightly used trucks on my last 2 purchases. In today’s market, I don’t think it’s worth it not to buy new. Obviously, there are exceptions, like private sales — I’m not that lucky.

I have been driving a Chevy with the 5.3 liter for 20 years has nearly 300,000 original engine and transmission. No major problems but it is on its last leg. I'm shopping on line right now for a GMC. Mississippi dealers don't have the best pricing. Right now I'm getting quotes from Dallas, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, New Orleans and Jacksonville.

Pro tip: A big mistake people make when they trade their existing vehicle on a new one is that they focus on the sale price of the new vehicle over what the dealer gives them for the trade. They think a new car price is negotiable, but the value of the their trade "is what it is." The truth is that car dealers make more money off their used vehicle lot than they do off their new vehicle lot.....and most of the time you have more negotiating power over the value of your trade than the cost of the new vehicle.

Most car dealers don't want you to know this.

I was shocked what my dad got on his trade in for his 2500 HD with 150,000 farm miles on it. It was way more than I expected.

You’re exactly right. Most car dealers are selling the new vehicle at about as cheap as they can and screwing you on the trade in.

Yeah, GMs hold their value extraordinarily well. Those heavy duty trucks, even more so. Fords used to as well, before they started making aluminum trucks. I know it's all personal preference, but I don't see how anyone can buy a half ton Ford truck.

I got what I expected when I traded mine at 100,000 miles a couple of years ago. It was just shocking to me how little the value dropped from 100k to 150k

Looking at getting a full size truck. Probably 2011-2015 models. I am doing my research on different brands but wanted to get you guys opinions. Most reliable, 4X4 or no, fuel efficiency etc. All advice welcome.

Nissan Titan is a helluva nice truck, but severely over-priced, unless you get some incentives.

^^ I agree.
I agree also on the ride and drive. But............. We have about 600 Chevy trucks in our fleet and we have one or more in the shop for transmission replacement at almost any given time. Most of these are not pulling anything and mostly hwy. miles. The last three company trucks I have had all had to have a transmission. The one I drive now is down with transmission problems. I just bought a new F250 personal truck to pull my show trucks, in an inclosed 30' trailer and have been very happy with it so far.
Basically the big three are all about even right now, in my opinion. The transmission issues are starting to move me away from the GM's.

The ones saying Dodge’s resale is bad are correct, if you sell back in 2-4 years. If you keep it longer than that, they’re almost identical, between the big 4, and better than f-150 and a beyond better than Titans. That said, the 2019 Ram is head and shoulders better than all of the others in interior, exterior, price, and bang for your buck. Whether they hold up or not is up to the MOPAR brand, but reviews on kbb and Edmunds say that resale is on the Chevy side, experience on the Dodge side, and all-around on Ford. Titan and tundra owners seem to love their trucks on this board, but that’s to be expected when you overpay for inferior products and then go on a public platform.
