Hey Glory... And any other former Marines. Got one for you.

Just went next door to say high to a new neighbor. He's been there for about 6 months but I just closed a few weeks ago. Since he moved in he has flown 2 flags. A US flag and a Marine Corps flag.

I have talked to him once before, but didn't get into military. So I asked him today and it turns out he wasn't in. His son was for 4 years and ETS'd out in 2016. Never deployed and was in an admin role during his 4 years.

Is it cool for this guy to fly the MC flag? Not sure how I feel about it myself, but I thought some of you guys might know the unwritten rules.

ETA. Noticed some broadleaf weeds in his yard and asked if he wanted me to hit it with my 2-4D and he said he's only using vinegar and soap.... It shows.

Parents make scarifies when their children go off to the military. That's their kid. My opinion, his son served, his dad should be allowed to fly the flag.

I’m a day late but thank you for your service. I don’t have a lot of regrets but one thing that I feel missing in my life is that I never served. Everyone that has served or is serving our country has my respect and appreciation.

I don’t have opinion about the flag. However, I usually go to the Veterans Day program in Jackson each year and the part that always gets me the recognition of a Gold Star Family. This year it was the mother of a soldier who died at the Pentagon on 9/11.

I don't know anything about him except that his picture hung in Middleton Hall (ROTC Building) on state's campus as an alum of the ROTC program and of MSU that died in the Pentagon on 9/11

Yes that was his mother. Every year hearing about those that lost their life while serving our country and seeing their family is sobering reminder of the cost of freedom.

Well said NTDawg and exactly how I feel. Not serving seems to bothers me a little more each year. I don't know why.

Yes, they do. Especially when a son deploys and leaves behind a wife and small children under 2 years old. The parents of the son who deployed, sacrifice a lot. Everyone does. As far as I'm concerned, he can fly that flag in support of all Marines.

Gotcha. The whole parental pride/sacrifice thing never registered with me. Military service was kinda the family business for me with both of my grandfathers and father putting in 20. More of the quiet pride and a handshake when you come home sorta deal I guess.
