About 20 years ago my dad, brother and I buried a canister full of stuff in his front yard. Dad is getting sick and wants to dig it up. Problem is I’m not sure a metal detector would detect an old wore out coffee canister. Dads property is on the bayou and obviously Katrina and the moisture in the ground just being on the coast probably has the old can pretty rough in shape.

We gotta roundabout idea where we buried it but not an exact location. Any tips on finding it?

Why would a metal detector not work?

It’s got to be a fairly large metal object, right?

One of those old thin Folgers canisters. Just figured it’s wore out from the moisture is all. It might could work.

You may be right, but I’d try it first. Probably a lot easier than any other option, unless you can convince your brother to do it one weekend when you “get called in to work”.

I was about 5-6 years old at the time and if I remember correctly I put a couple rare Pokémon cards my dad paid big money for at an auction and some loose baseball cards and random things. I’m not sure what my brother put but I know my dad put a letter to us in there as well.

I hate to be a downer but...

Even if you find it I think anything in that can made of paper will be in very rough shape.

You're on the coast, right? I have a metal detector you can borrow. That's definitely where you should start.

**** 20 years is really nothing.
Talk to me when you dig up something from 40-50 years ago.
Now you really have something memorable and valuable.
Love the idea but only 20 years ? - not too exited about that.

Suppose you missed the part about my dad not being in good health. Dick.
