Apparently it was some sort of an argument... Either way what an idiot
First woman gets out of the car and is dragged off by a tiger. A man and a second woman get out to try and save the first woman. Second woman is the one that was killed, the first woman was mauled and sustained serious injuries.

Too many "wild animals are just friends you haven't met yet" shows on cable. People be petting sharks, tigers, rattlers etc

I think she didn't like how he was driving and she wanted to drive. She gets out of the passenger side, walks around to the drivers side. He opens his door and it looked like he didn't want to let her drive, they were exchanging words. They never saw the tiger until it attacked.

Some people don't take the instructions 'Stay in car' seriously when they don't see any tigers next to their car.

Wouldn't any of you leap out to help your daughter if she was being mauled by a tiger? Of course I didn't say 'wife' because some of us probably would say 'no'.

The woman who died did so heroically.

yes I would. However I would hope that I would raise my daughter to be smart enough to not get out of the car in the middle of a wild tiger safari exhibit and create this scene in the first place!

To be fair, at least one word in the term "WILD ANIMAL park" might have been misleading.

A few years back I was at the zoo with my daughter, about 5 at the time, and she asked what would happen if someone went inside the polar bear exhibit. I told her that the bear would probably eat the person. A lady next to me gave me a dirty look and told me we don't need that kind of talk and proceeded to tell her daughter it was a friendly bear.

Thankfully the chances of her daughter getting eaten by a 'friendly bear' is pretty small, but holy hell...

From reading the above posts, I think that: (1) the wife was unhappy with the way her husband was driving and exited the vehicle to take his place driving; (2) some people, such as the wife, have a hard time following directions and think that the rules don't apply to them; (3) the relaxed behavior of the tigers in the safari park probably lulled the wife into a false sense that they were docile and semi-tame; and (4) have to give the wife's mother a lot of credit for trying to save her daughter;

Stuck inside a car arguing with my wife? And the only other option is dealing with tigers?

I get it.

I'd never do it, but I get it.
Stuck inside a car with my wife AND her mother? I definitely would've jumped out with steaks draped around my throat.

Seriously though, why weren't there safety measures for this?

What safety measure do you want? They were in their cars, you can't weld the doors shut. The other measure is to have the cats completely separate and behind fences (they do this now in the US because of dumb asses, and it sucks).

It's awful that people get killed because of a single bad decision, but sometimes it's a really, really freaking bad decision and monumentally stupid. Putting in measures against all of those types of decisions is pretty difficult (they'll build a better idiot) and it sucks the joy of out a lot of things for the rest of the world.

People are both poorly informed about animals in the wild and reluctant to take any warnings seriously. Both of these lead to Darwins survival of the fittest (not to mention smartest).
