Oof, what a big budget mess. I can't believe that was going to be a Christmas Day release blockbuster.

The plot is so nonsensical- just use the decades to prepare nukes for when the monsters thaw and destroy em right then.
And the last 30min is so conveniently goofy- a HS teen solves the volcanic ash issue, a group flues undercover to the Russian Arctic, and they stumble upon the location?

It was worth the $0 I paid to watch it.

Some of you people just suck. It’s a 17ing movie about monsters where every day people travel in time to save the present day. Were you expecting Gone with the Wind? The Shawshank Redemption? How would you improve it, Mr Spielberg? Jesus, dude. Trying not being so negative and cynical some time and just enjoy things for what they are. 17.
I went in expecting a wild movie about aliens and time travel and enjoyed it. Jesus.

I watched it last night, and I was entertained.

My wife and I logged into Hulu a couple days ago for the first time in a while and saw them pumping False Positive. Holy ****. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a movie that bad. This streaming content has really been depressing lately.

I specifically didn't declare it 'unrealistic' because of course it is unrealistic.
It was a mess though and compared to many other movies with similar themes, it was a mess.

The plot had Swiss cheese holes abd the dialogue was pretty damn basic(when Pratt declares he is destined for greatness...come on).
Based on the actor, how much was paid for the movie by Amazon, and how much it was pushed- I expected more.

Between this move and Infinite, Paramount has released a couple of rough sci-fi movies recently.

I am not picking on you exactly but I remember when summer popcorn movies were just plain fun and not over analyzed by critics. Independence Day, Armageddon, etc. were just escapism and not required to be Academy Award material. Even the Academy Awards take themselves too seriously now with their diversity requirements and banishment of classic movies because they portray life in a different time period. I imagine much of the criticism of this movie is due in part to it's star Chris Pratt.

The Tomorrow War is pure escapism and not the best of those but fun to watch. It has some fun characters and action and is completely devoid of all the virtue signaling of today's movie. The plot is silly but so what?

Yeah, that was a question I had.
Basically, the alt future just never exists since the present can change the future. So the present sacrificed untold numbers by sending them to die in the future for something that could be prevented in the present day's timeline.

All those who died from the present day were going to die before the war, but in the futurexs timeliness those people did thongs between the present present and their death. So sending them to the future messes with the future's timeline for that person and all they do up to their death.

It just all seemed so unnecessary. Its like they had multiple routes to take and chose the plan that would create the most death and destruction. That just seems to make for a bad plot and movie.

I always want to love sci-fi and time travel movies and shows. Geek on em.
Loki is a fun series so far, for example.

It had entertainment value imo, though I wasn't expecting Pratt to win an Oscar. Sounds like you couldn't keep up and got confused. Happens to the best of em.

They explained this in the movie. They only had one link in time.
They started out by sending military that could actually travel and they were wiped out.
They then resorted to a draft. Not everyone could time jump.

But the movie could have been a lot better.

I thought it was pretty good. Fairly good shoot 'em up movie, although the lack of futuristic tech was disappointing. We added a few details to Blackhawks, strapped a fancy grip on an M4, and off we go.
What's that? The successful guy carries a shotgun and a Ma Deuce chews them up and spits them out? Never mind, I'll just keep using 5.56...

Yeah, there were a few plot holes, but they papered over the big ones; you can't nuke all of Siberia.

Despite using different terms ("nonsensical"/"a mess" vs. "unrealistic"), I think you and I are talking about the same thing: the plot had some holes (or, ridiculous parts) in it.

not going to lie, when they hinted that the present military didnt want to help the future, I IMMEDIATELY thought this is a metaphor for climate change!

Golfer, you caught some hell on this one, but my God are you right. This movie was 17ing awful. The director and writer were clearly in WAY over their heads.

I like Chris Pratt. In the right role with the right director (James Gunn, for one) he's great, but this shows all his weaknesses as an actor.

I love how in a 10 minute time span they go from "We gotta get to Russia" to inside an alien spaceship 100's of feet under a glacier with no aid from any government.

This may be the worst big budget movie I've ever seen in terms of story and editing. There is nothing believable about any of it.

I watched and I’ll have to agree with you on a lot of this.
You always have to ignore some plot holes on any movie with time travel, but the entire premise was nonsensical. If the past affects the future, the obvious thing for the people in the future to do is to go to the past and have them start preparing for war thirty years in the future and have Siberia fortified for about the time the aliens showed up.

It was entertaining enough, but even for a time travel movie, it was worse than normal as far as having to ignore obvious plot holes.

Could have improved the movie by having the strahovski girl or whatever her name is command and fight in a string bikini. It wouldn’t have made a lot of sense, but I could have ignored that just as easily as I ignored that the entire premise was nonsensical, and it would have made it more entertaining for sure.

I watched it last night. I enjoyed it. It is what it is. (It's more believable than a Big Foot flying a spaceship like in Star Wars.****) Who knows what's under the ice caps. Also if you have a daughter the movie will tug at your heart a little bit.

Exactly. It was a fun movie. Last act could have been better but all movies have plot holes and woulda coulda. If they could have gotten away with 3 hrs they could have cleaned up some things. All in all it was entertaining

If I remember correctly didn’t he say he was going to come back to the future and keep his future daughter from dying? Obviously the machine breaking prevented that but it left a big speech in the movie unfulfilled.

It's an opinion. I really like Pratt. He's funny as hell, likeable and charming. I just don't think he's great delivering dramatic lines, and there aren't many laughs in this (at least to me). He can be good with a good team around him. Passengers was a dramatic role and I thought he was really good in that. Just thought this was way short of that.

Agree completely that it's hard to look good as an actor with weak directing, writing and editing but it can happen.

A lot of folks thought Suicide Squad sucked, but basically everyone thought Margot Robbie was brilliant as Harley Quinn.
