Watched 6 or 7 episodes of this show, waiting for something to happen. I moved on when it didn't.

The new Twin Peaks series is great, so far.

Love the show but it is obviously not for everyone that likes everything to be cut and dry and easily explained or defined. Most shows on network television are the same recycled material over and over again. Leftovers is very unique as it leaves the viewer truly guessing and often dumbfounded. The perfect strangers theme music and references were hilarious.

One more episode and we may not know what actually happened and i am ok with that.

unlike a show like "breaking bad", this show does not seem like it has to tie up a lot of loose ends..... when you stop and think about it, there are not a lot of loose ends here, as opposed to bb.....

had a few thoughts..... is it possible we have Nora go through the machine, Laurie committing suicide in the water, and they see Kevin on the other side, him drowning once again.... or is that alternate place completely destroyed, no longer accessible

I would be happy with some sort of resolution as to what Kevin Jr really is now..... is he the current day Jesus in some shape or form.... will he be recognizes as such?

any hope for finding out what happened to the people that disappeared is pretty much gone.

I would like to see some sort of attempt to explain the departed. I always thought of an alternative universe scenario but with this being the last season, I don't see many things getting resolved. I too would like to know if Kevin is a modern day Jesus but I don't see that explanation coming either. The show is good at raising questions but not good with explanations....because there are none.

I really wanted to hear some sort of explanation of missing shoes on the kids...but NO...nothing... There's definitely a trend of no explanations for stuff happening.

Nora going through the machine and being reunited with her family might be interesting. Or being reunited with Kevin in his death dreams. I don't buy that the alternative place is destroyed by the nukes so I think we'll be back there.

it would have been interesting to see Kevin get the song, give it to his father, and have that stop the flood.... a lot happened this past show leaving you hanging.... the kids shoes.... was there really going to be a flood?

This show is really about belittling religion
In particular sects and cults
In addition to human pain and suffering

Pain and suffering... absolutely.

belittling religion?.... perhaps (your opinion is as valid as mine)... But, I'd suggest they are asking you to ask questions about faith (not specifically religion). What is faith? What does it mean to have faith? Can you just have faith in faith or can you question faith, challenge faith?

also, seems to address many other themes (as discussed above).

Matter of perspective but the show makes you consider aspects of religion

The intro with the seventh day Adventist group is telling

So is the moral of the story "things keep on keeping on?"

Didn't love the ending. but, as I understand it:

Is something true because people believe it? Can something be true if no one else believes it? Kevin believes, or says he believes, the story; that’s the whole point of the series. That’s what (some may say) religion is.

twins ... alternate universe. Showrunner Lindelof often compares Lost and Leftovers to The Prisoner. Interesting "alternate" universe where Edi survived the drone attack - but the rest of her family dies. Early beach scene with foreign villain was an interesting call back to LOST. Final scene with Kevin Sr. was interesting reference back to S3Ep. 1 where the cultists didn't want to come down from their roof either -- once it seemed that the world didn't end and they were wrong...Kevin Jr. had to (literally) reach into his heart to find the key to once-and-for-all destroy this alternate/escape reality (which he thought might, but doesn't really, solve any of his problems). All this where Kevin rose from the dead-AGAIN, and no one seems to be that surprised....Is the book of Kevin "that" important... or is it just a sappy melodrama.... Maybe the big answers we search-for are not as important as we think they should be. But, if Kevin is gonna find Nora, he better hurry - she always wanted to be cremated.. and she's about to get into a a big microwave..... I'm not going to try to explain the wiener scanner...

You can make a very good argument that none of what Kevin experienced in the "other place" is real, but dreams or delusions (mental illness seems to run in his family). The writers have said as much in interviews, that they were careful to make sure most of the "supernatural" events can be explained by coincidence, luck, nature, etc. If you add to that what I think is Nora lying about "going to the other side and back" (why would her family still be living in the same house if 98% of the population disappeared? why wouldn't the machine inventor send anyone else back?, etc.), you just have a love story alongside character studies about different people coping with loss. tragedy and questions of faith.

I read the book, which is the basis for season one. It was written as a response to 9/11. The randomness of the victims, how to honor those lost, and how those that survived dealt with the events are all explored in the show. I thought it was great, especially the 2nd and 3rd seasons, when they were able to move past the book and inject some humor into what was some depressing material.

Telling in this episode was the issues of lies -
Kevin lying
The nun lying
and Nora lying about the other side.

"The Leftovers?" I blame Flood. Ash makes do with 'em. 'Cause, after all, we gotta eat, something. Besides, sometimes "leftovers" are better than the original meal. Wait. . . . Wut?

I don't understand the idea of Nora lying..... we saw her nano seconds from being immersed in the liquid..... I can't see where the process was stopped, she chickening out, then making up the story of the other
universe... so she must have gone through and then came back...

if she went, why then lie about what she saw there?

I agree the whole lying angle is a lazy way to logically explain away the show. Also how could Kevin be lying about repeatedly dying when there were witnesses that in many cases caused his death. The show is centered around an unexplainable event, why cant more unexplainable events also occur?

Obviously everyone's interpretation can be different, that's what's great about the show. But one question: why no flashback to Nora's "going over"? They purposely want there to be doubts about the story.

Conversely, while every one of Kevin's "deaths" is questionable (the writers have said that repeatedly), his experiences are real to him, whether a dream or delusion. That's why they are portrayed onscreen.

That's my take and I'm sticking to it.

we have to believe some truth about Kevin being special if he was drowned on the see-saw, and lived to tell about it... his family and
the other women were there to witness it.

I agree that Nora telling the story of the other side was a bit disappointing, and should have been actually shown..... my guess is that either the writers thought it was not necessary, or, it would have
made the final episode too long.... but just hearing the story was not a satisfying way to do it, despite cleaning up a few details.

as I mention elsewhere, Kevin was drowned on the see-saw with witnesses..... it seems to verify that something special was going on with him, we can still question his dreams/delusions.....

his final trip did not come back with any answers..... he did not get the song, did not get the answer about the childrens shoes.....if he had found the answer for the shoes, for example, I would think that would be
proof.....if the shoes are then found by the woman

I actually think we did get answers from his final trip which was that all the things people were asking him to do and find out were pointless and nonsensical like the song. As we found out nothing happened on the anniversary with or without the song. It showed that people just really didn't know anything and were just throwing **** against the wall trying to attach meaning to things that just didn't have any.

They cut the show short because no one was watching it. I don't understand why? I'm sure Nora going to the other side coulda been half a season worth of episodes, if not more. I love the show. I was very disappointed to find out that they were cutting it short.

I'm sure they planned on answering all questions. Mental illness? God? Sept. 11? I don't know. But the acting, music, directing were better than anything else on a weekly program.

Can Kevin "dying" be explained away by the heart condition they discovered later in his life? It seemed so odd that he mentioned the heart condition on two occasions

So my take: Universe splits into two 98% go one way and 2% the other. Both sides think they are the Leftovers.

What does Kevin's inability to die mean? I don't know.
Why is Kevin in the 3rd "Alternate Universe?" Is that purgatory? Was God on the earphone talking to Kevin God? He said he was lying and not God.

So for me. Physical universe split happens for no "Godly" reason. Everything else the Leftovers misunderstanding what it's all about and attributing it to God. Anything amazing that happens to either of the Kevins is because they are crazy and they are imagining it. As to the family members and friends seeing Kevin die and come back? Maybe he wasn't left on the see-saw long enough to die? Maybe he wasn't really fatally shot? I don't know.

After this and Lost I think I'll skip the next show by this guy who apparently is nuts and enjoys leaving his show's fans unfulfilled. <shrug>

The 98% missing world seems impossible. Society didn't collapse? People were still living in their same houses 7 years later? I understand believing Kevin died, but the Nora story? C'mon.

The rapture was never intended to be explained - merely a vehicle to show peoples reactions and how religious sects are formed.

Nora was lying -as the episode was based on lies.

Finally watched the last season. The big scene when Kevin left Nora was about her not being able to deal with the loss of her children. Now she "comes back" with this story that her children are totally happy and, although it took 20 years, she is finally ready to move forward.

I have no doubt that she made up the story. But that has been the point of the show - dealing with unimaginable loss.

Few people were bigger fans than me.

From mid-way through season 1 through the end of season 2, I thought this was one of the smartest shows on t.v.

Season 3 had its moments...but, I have to admit that it unraveled at the end...

Between Lost and how TLO's turned out Damon Lindelof has LOST me as a fan.... Asking a bunch of interesting questions, shooting it in an artistic way and throwing in a couple polar bears or time-machines is okay once or twice.... but, i won't be fooled again......

Would have to agree -taking a supernatural/scifi concept and hiding a drama within is hard to swallow.

Many wanted an explanation on the rapture - which going in you knew it was never going to be explained.

Hence the confusion of what this show was really about.
