So have been watching this for three seasons. Still unsure what is going on.

Without sharing spoilers (I'm up to date this year) does anyone know if there is much deeper meaning to this story?

Not sure to take it at face value or much deeper.

I watched the first few episodes of season 1 and it just didn't draw me in.

Also, not enough hot naked chicks.

what happened to the two percent of the population will not be revealed, this much was pretty much told to us before this season

the show is probably finishing up in Australia, and I believe that Kevin will become more and more of a Christ like figure in the world, no matter how much he hates the idea.... he has died and risen, a couple of times..... the book
written about him, possibly a new bible?

an interesting episode last night, not much seems to be happening in a weird way for most of it, then a strange twist or two late, just to screw your mind.

most fans would tell you that season two, which was not part of the original book, was way better than the first, this season to be determined...

Good drama bad sci Fi as they will not address reasons for departure
Really a show about grief and agony and how people address these issues as well as religious fundamentalism

Big fan........ watched since the beginning. S1 was a bit mixed.. S2 was awesome (International Assassin may have been one of the greatest hours of tv drama ever). So, far S3 has been pretty good (early reviews say it'll be even better than S2).

all reports are S3 is the last season (though, you could see someone taking the concept and making many other story lines)

Unfortunately, if you're looking for some sort of "final, big answer to all the mysteries and questions of the show" - I think you'll be disappointed....

Best critique I've seen of the show is.... this is the series that LOST should have been.. before the network got greedy and messed it up..... enjoy the ride while it lasts...

Seems like a lousy show, but anyone care to give a 3 to 4 sentence summary of what happened in episode 1 and what's happened since?

Watched first season and that was enough to prevent me from watching anymore. Don't know why this show is still on?

Does everything that happens in life have some mystical and deeper purposes or are they just random jokes?

.....and dogs. why are there so many dogs?

Absolutely agree. Show has a chance. To be on the Mount Rushmore of TV. It's that good. The acting is incredible, especially Nora. No show. Makes you think about life, religion, grief etc.

Watched the first 10 episodes of Season 1 last week on Demand and now Optimum drops Season 1 altogether ...... never saw the last 2 shows ( and not on NetFlix). Looked pretty decent.
Will probably jump to Season 2 tonight On Demand.

I watch and enjoy this show - but saying it is the best on TV to me is a reach.

However - noted TV critic Alan Sepinwall feels this is must see TV.

I read and loved the book. Watched season 1 and thought it was ok. Started season 2 and did not enjoy it.

Never heard of this show until now - I thought this going to be about the remnants of the Big East or the AAC (e.g. Yukon).

I heard an interview on Bloomberg last weekend with the main actress. I didn't catch all of it but from what I gathered she said just what Big Frank says, that is its about how people grieve and the backdrop is just a canvass, so to speak. It's not Scifi, it's about how people deal with emotions.

I liked season 1. Couldn't make it through season 2. The whole town of miracle and the girl disappearing was just odd. Surprised it's still a hit.

Phenomenal show. Binge-watched 2 seasons in a weekend last month and am loving the start of S3 so far. You just gottta get past the "people disappearing into thin air" thing then all is well.

I find the music (eg, the solo piano, and variations there-of) to be so haunting and sad. It's great! Series is good, too. If you don't know the music, it's here:

Max Richter is a genius.
The use of music in this show is brilliant. you know when you start hearing The Departure music **** is about to get real somehow.

S2E5 the use of "Let Your Love Flow," by The Bellamy Brothers, was mind-blowing. As in the person who chose the song, and how to use it - almost incessantly - in the first 15 minutes or so of the episode, should get an award.

the music definitely adds to the show..... my favorite sequences of the show
was the last episode in season two, with Erika running onto the bridge, and instead of dialog with her daughter at first, there was music... strange, but it worked..

.not to mention Kevin having to sing to find his way back out of, where ever that was.... who the hell writes this stuff, it was just outstanding.

those scenes, back to back, I still love to watch

this show seems to have a wide range of opinions about it....some tv critics think it is the best thing on the air, as I do.... some watch, and cannot
figure out what the big deal is/was.....any way, I hate to see it end

Since I stopped during season 2, can someone please tell me the deal about the white coat people? Was that ever revealed?
They were all chain smokers.
I am a former smoker and still occasionally hit a Marlboro sometimes when drinking. So why the hell were the white coats smokers?

the white coat people made their mission fairly clear, that they wanted the
departed to be remembered... they made up dummies to replace the missing, to remind the families of their loss.... the smoking was more of a cult thing, probably begun by whomever started the movement

But What's The Point of All This?
Again, according to Perrotta, the Guilty Remnant "see themselves as living reminders. They see themselves as bearing witness, and there is this guilty sense — they believe that they were rejected by God." The GR is an expression of the mania produced by people simply disappearing into the ether. Of course, there is a little more to the GR, but we'll leave at least a bit of that up to the storytelling geniuses behind the TV version of The Leftovers.

Which (as just one of many themes in the show) leads to the question... if only 2% of the worlds population departed, how can the remaining 98% be guilty/wrong/evil/un-evolved/wicked/forgotten? Is that fair? Is life fair? Is God fair? Is there a point to life? and on and on.....

The GRs just shows how sects are formed - the smoking part is way of escalating their departure. Fairness in comparing religions is a fools errand as we see fundamentalists in all religions.

yup . TheLeftovers and BCS - best shows on tv...

Wasn't too impressed with Ep 1 of Fargo S3 (but won't give up on it quite yet). Looking forward to American Gods..

Archer still great (Dreamland season has been fun) Brockmire (relatively new 1/2 hour comedy - not too bad)

I like the show and this episode was good but feel like the show isn't progressing

Sr. walks 40 days/nights through the desert, falls-on and kills the only man who he thinks can save him, sees a burning bush (or man), fights a serpent, dies on the cross and is resurrected by the hand of Grace. Meanwhile, Jr. is still seeing dead people, breaks-up with Nora who is probably immaculately pregnant with his child. But, she is too busy closing-in on the solution to the departure (and/or is about to be microwaved to death), meanwhile the rest of the Scooby-crew is on a "Daniel and the lion den"-filled, sex cruise in stormy seas with a guest appearance from God (and/or David Burton from the International Hotel) - oh and France is blowing up volcanic islands with Thermonuclear warheads... and somehow the entire show has relocated to the other side of the world... all with 4 days to go until the end of the world....

yeah, i think it's kind of progressing..........

...and the flood may be coming, and dogs too........

:sunglasses:
