OT - The Jeep Commercial question got me thinking

and that is usually a dangerous thing. Anyhow, a guy up the street has (an OD Green?) Jeep Rubicon truck that he parks on his driveway. It's probably a 2020. Every time I drive past, I say to myself, "What a good looking truck." I know if you buy one with all of the bells and whistles, they can be pricy.

My question - Are they good vehicles? Does anyone have experience with them?

Thanks.

I was going to buy one ( a 2 door of course. The 4 doors are for the soccer moms) but I have reserved a new Bronco instead. I really liked the Jeep but the appeal of getting the new Bronco was too great. But from what I can tell, they are great vehicles and Jeep is offering great deals right now.

Quality of JEEP has dropped off precipitously in the last decade or so, sometime between getting spun off by Mercedes and acquired by Fiat.

I imagine they still make a reliable vehicle to service true off road enthusiasts. If you just want something to get you around town and escape the occasional mudhole, you can do much better.

I would own one as an off road toy but that'd be about it, not a daily driver. Between the death wobble and poor exhaust design/components there just seems to be a lot of minor to major issues that cause you to throw money into them all the time. That and the roll cage is now Aluminum and crushes easily

The Ram trucks, by comparison, have really upped their game.

I’ll never own another Jeep as a daily driver. Had a 2016 (I think that’s right) JKU Wrangler and it was the most uncomfortable, roughest riding, loudest vehicle I have ever owned. It was fun for the first few months, but the fun make up for the negatives. Ended up buying a 2017 Silverado and it has had it’s own issues, but it is at least extremely comfortable and has a much more user-friendly interior. If you want a truck, buy a real truck. That’s my advice.

No ****. What is better about the newer models? Serious question

I bought a new Limited in February. Traded my 2017 GMC Sierra Denali for it. It's the best truck I've ever owned, from the creature comforts, to the technology, to the ride, to the performance, to the interior space, to the look of it. It's just a great truck. I wasn't a fan of the previous models because they didn't seem to be well built and didn't hold their trade value as well as gm and Ford. But this one changed the game for me. I think it's won truck of the year two years in a row.

If I had to quibble about anything, the gas mileage on that 5.7l hemi sucks, and I had to make a modification to my front wheel wells because my 35 inch BF Goodies rubbed on sharp turns. But those things are minor.

This is coming from someone who'd been loyal to GM trucks for 20 years.

If you love it and it's a trouble free truck for you, drive it until the wheels fall off. Trade value on Rams isn't good at all historically.

Loved my Jeep Wrangler Unkimited(I was a soccer coach - I would buy a 2 door). Rode like a truck but handled like an suv. Had the death wobble so bad on I-10 I had to come to a stop, had a hot oil light come on right before I sold it. Serviced the transmission and traded it in for a Tundra. Had a caboose last year and there’s no way you’re comfortably putting a baby seat in a Wrangler. Love the Tundras size and ability to haul but I miss driving the .Jeep. Crazy thing is the gas mileage wasn’t much better in the Jeep. I’d buy another Wrangler Unlimited. I really loved it. Have thought abt a bronco though.

It's not terrible. It's just not as good as GM and Ford.

That said, I'm hanging on to this one. It's a keeper.

I've driven quite a few highway miles lately (right lane about 75 before I get compared to you-know-who) and something that has jumped out at me is people drive Jeeps a hell of a lot faster than they used to. Tires, ride, gear ratios, motors or whatever it is is letting them roll with the big boys.

I’ve got a 2020 Gladiator and love it. I preface this by admitting that I’m a Jeep guy. I bought my first Jeep when I was 14 and have probably only spent a handful of years in the last 45 without one. Jeeps are not daily driver SUVs, they are first and foremost off-road vehicles. If you are driving a GMC Denali and trade for a Gladiator, you are going to be disappointed. If you are driving a 2 or 4 door Jeep and trade for a Gladiator you will probably love it. When people ask me how I like it, I tell them it’s not a half ton luxury pickup, it’s a Jeep with a pickup bed.

My Rubicon has 4:10 gears and stock 33 tires so you would expect it to be a dog with just a V6 but it’s not. The 8 speed transmission works well. I’m not sure if the transfer case is 1:1 so they could be getting something there as well. It has no issues staying in the traffic flow, it runs 75-80 on the interstate with ease. Most Jeeps have 3.73 gears so they are even better on the highway.
