OT: Texas HS player tackles ref

[zappaa]

Was he suspended? I find it incredulous that Montclair HS would have kept him on staff after this... who were the head coaches Fortunato and Wolf ?

Yes, and not suspended.
Sent to the press box.
He was so respected, and feared...the incident could never be spoken about.
It was as if it never occurred

Never happened.
They never beat us in Montclair, and that would never happen in Montclair

Better experience playing powerhouse East Orange back in ’66 and 67 ... great atmosphere riding out of Marten’s Stadium...EO had a great coach ( Tom Dean) who shortly afterwards went to Texas to coach High School Football ...Montclair and East Orange both great programs of that time period.

Bob-
It’s incredible something like this was kept completely in house.
I’m sure Butch told the NJSIAA, I will handle it, and that was the end of the conversation.
Try that one today.

Well Zap they did a great job because nobody I spoke to ever mentioned anything about the incident. Montclair and Brick had a good north south rivalry . Wolf as you know was a south Jersey legend and Butch and his predecessor GOAT Clary Anderson were a great tandem . I have one question for you... Larry Schumacher is listed in the East Orange High School HOF ... I know he played for Essex Catholic and afterwards at Notre Dame. Am I wrong? Even back then kids switched schools even public ones. Always turned a blind eye to this practice back then . I was accepted to and was to play at St.Benedict’s under Joe Kasberger both football and baseball. The biggest mistake I think I made as a kid.
