Aluminum - friend that uses it for product was told to buy all 2022's inventory now or pay 100% more next year. Just that communication alone from suppliers can launch a self-fulfilling prophecy
IT (my industry) - very hit or miss on what can be gotten. so far, I can find something that I need to get for my customers, but it may not be the model I want. I see manufacturers sunsetting older products suddenly/early to focus efforts on next gen/newer stuff. I also see them using chips for their Enterprise (high$/high margin) products and not producing similar, down market products.
Auto - read a great article that quoted one of Intel's big dogs. He basically said that as auto sales dropped early pandemic that they focused efforts on other things that were booming (laptops, etc.). He pointed out that auto manufacturers had been depending on them to tool up and produce old chips because, for example, in a braking system, the amount of testing that has to go to approve something safety related is so extensive that they don't like change. The Intel dude said his advice to auto manufacturers is to update their technology to newer chips.
