Wonder if there was negotiating between Greg and Urban and the need to keep Greg with Fickell leaving for Cincinnati. Wonder what Urban's plans are for staying HC and if Greg has his eye on a bigger prize by staying put in Columbus?

Not a good fit at Texas? Was an unmitigated disaster! Worst three years in Texas football in like eighty years?

Record without Teddy Bridgewater leaves an awful lot to be desired. Maybe he'll recruit well enough back home to compensate.

He is more of a G5 than a P5 HC. Too big of a jump in competition without an Elite QB.

Should do a lot better at USF.

He can eye bigger prizes all he wants, I think he needs to go to a USF type school and succeed as a head coach before he can think about top programs. Just my humble opinion

There will normally be a non P5 team picked for a NYD bowl game. There are a ton of stud athletes in FL and many of those athletes don't wind up attending P5 schools because of family situations (I.e. Kids, married, etc), low grades and/or are from the west coast of FL and want short commute to USF. Strong has long lasting relationships with FL high schools throughout the state. Not saying he's going to lead USF to a national championship but he will have no shortage of FL athletes.

He got 10.9 M coming from Texas I figured he rest and recharge the batteries for a year. But I guess some guys just need to coach

USF is an interesting team / university / element in the Florida & College Sport landscape - they have potential, large student body ,an appealing climate & growing campus - and seeimgly great upward potential - one could imagine USF being huge 10-15-20 years from now - barring any strange / negative events.

However, you have to wonder how many really dominant university athletic programs can thrive in one state - Florida - right now has UF, FSU & Miami - then everybody else - is there enough oxygen in the state for USF and ...UCF ... FIU.... FAU .... and ?

Texas manages to have a sizable number - and California ... but very few states beyond that really have more than three (if that many )

Seems pretty obvious that this sets Gary up nicely for whenever Urban and Shelley want to go and sit on a beach somewhere.

Read somewhere that his wife is from the Tampa area and she wanted to come home. Also CS hinting this may be his last stop. Monster get for Bulls
