We might all be changing to Verve-102 soon.

I will try to link an article
I mentioned this earlier in the thread. Verve Therapeutics is developing two fascinating gene therapies for familial hypercholesterolemia.

Had a high blood test result and main doc wanted me to go on a statin. I asked for a test of ApoB & LPa after reading “outlive” … both numbers came back high and saw a specialist at UPenn.

Went on atorvastatin and ezetemide at its lowest doses along with a baby aspirin (calcium score also not great - both this and cholesterol due to genetics)…

Switched a couple months ago from Eze to Repatha twice a month to knock down ldl score even more. My insurance approved it.

I have always eat healthy and exercise … sometimes genetics wins but it I’d rather not risk going without the meds.

My biggest problem with the statins, other than not being able to handle them, was the exit plan. No one could answer the question "What's the plan for me to NOT have to take these." it's treating the symptom and not the problem.

I have a similar issue with my BP medications. It seems to be just acceptd that you go on these medications forever. I want an exit strategy!
As a health care provider, I occasionally had patients ask why they had to keep taking blood pressure pills, diabetic meds, and cholesterol meds, when their numbers are coming back normal now

Some, think they have been cured and would like,to stop

Until something better comes along there rarely is an exit strategy
Just know that it is extending your life and cures are in the future

I went back and read it. I missed it the first time because I skipped your and numbers posts earlier

I have had parents in each of the last 2 years tell me that they stopped giving their kids ADHD meds because they are now "cured" because they were working so well. I don't get it.

As someone who worked in mental health and also coached a lot of youth sports, I especially liked the parents who didn’t give their kids their meds on weekends then dropped them off at practice and left. And they wondered why Johnny was running laps most of the practice

Worked in CNS/mental health for 5 years, including ADHD meds. Great products for kids that truly need it, but overall way too prescribed. Besides, there are alternatives:

I’ve seen TMS do wonders for kids for various things with zero side effects. It’s slowly being approved for more

I’ve been saying if you want to live another 10-15 years then take your blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds. There’s a reason life expectancy has increased from 50-60’s to 70’s-90’s. My mom is 94 and take about 4-5 blood pressure meds. I do know people that didn’t take their meds and they had a stroke and then passed away.

It takes minimal effort to control your BP. Checking BP is simple and there are literally over 100 effective BP meds that are generic and cost peanuts.

My mom and dad also take a ton of prescriptions

The men didn’t want to take their blood pressure meds because of the side effects downstairs. I think doctors don’t mention that some of the side effects can be minimized by changing blood pressure meds.

You can try nattokinase (from fermented soy) and its on Amazon/Ebay

"Natto, known for its high vitamin K content, has been demonstrated to suppress atherosclerosis in large-scale clinical trials through a yet-unknown mechanism

Natto, a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans, is a rich source of vitamin K2 and has been repeatedly shown to benefit the cardiovascular system"

Thank you but I am know pain free (old age aches and pains aside, being 78 can do that to you) so no treatments are necessary. The exit strategy I needed was one that helped address the side effects if the statins went south on you. Some posters seem to think the exit strategy is to get off the statins and lower cholesterol without them. If they work for you and there are no side effects you don’t need an exit strategy.

Only beta blockers potentially have those side effects (and the newest beta mitigates that issue to almost zero - Bystolic). Many more drug types to choose from. Most people should start with an ARB and go from there.

Again, thanks to all for the helpful info. I started on the generic version of Crestor.
Next up for me is a sleep study and possible C-Pap machine.
Stay healthy out there.

Congrats on the Crestor. As for possible sleep apnea, this is routinely linked to excessive weight. C-Pap and such things can really be mitigated and avoided by getting back to normal weight. Not sure if this is the case with you, but something to look into.

The wife required a sleep apnea approach
She expected to hate the entire thing, but tried a resmid machine that had individual leads to the nostrils, not a mask

The first night she, was, pleasantly surprised that she had little discomfort and slept way better than no help
Has been using it for about a month

Who ever fits you for therapy, I would ask if this could be used, she tried the mask previously and immediately rejected that

It almost sounds like an alcoholic who thinks they can still socially drink after a short period of sobriety.

I'm genuinely blown away at how much resistance seems to be occurring on western medicine

Good job on doing your research. At this point you might want to read up on supplementing with CoQ10. Crestor, like other statins, will reduce CoQ10 levels. Age doesn’t help either. I take 200 mg per day of CoQ10. I’ve had no issues with muscle weakness or fatigue.
