Great game. Panola scores a touchdown with ~2 minutes left to go up 38-34. MC takes the kick and drives down to about the panola 15. Last play of the game, MC scores but the TD is wiped out due to a holding call. Game over.

I was in the endzone so I didn't have a good view. Did anyone happen to see the hold?

Thanks

On last night’s call in show, they were saying the refs botched the call

Ended the game after the hold call, but MHsAA rules say no game can end on a penalty, regardless of which side it was called.

The RT grabbed some jersey of the DE on that side. But it wasn't that egregious - just typical blocking really. Plus the QB rolled left, and the backside DE had bad basically given up. I don't know for certain that's what drew the flag, but i didn't see anything else that looked like holding.

If that's what the call was, it was TERRIBLE.

You haven’t see awful officiating until you have seen Mississippi High School Football officiating. So if that is the pool SEC officials come from, ouch!

I remember about 10 years ago we went to watch the Tupelo vs Olive Branch game --- the year Bumphis was a senior. They had about a 15 minute stoppage where they called a penalty and moved the ball, then talked to one coach and moved it back, then talked to the other coach and moved it again, then had another 5 minute officials only discussion. I don't remember the final outcome or even what the penalty was - seems like it was on a punt. But they moved the ball at least 3 times and stopped the game for a solid 15 minutes in the middle of a quarter. Never seen anything like it.

It's bad everywhere. Last night in the Pearl-NW Rankin game, there was a pooch kickoff in the 4th quarter that NW player called for a fair catch, fumbled the ball and Pearl recovered. 2 officials signaled a recovery and 2 officials claimed the whistle blew on the fair catch, that wasn't caught. After a lengthy discussion, the referee (white hat) decided, 'we can't decide, let's just do the kickoff over again'.

Incompetent officiating resides at all levels of play, but the broadest is at the high school level.

My ex father-n-law which I have mad respect for just no longer married to his daughter was a 30yr+ high school official. He actually played college football and I think was a high school all American football player. He took it very seriously! And did not have favorites or biases to any high school program. And he would tell you that he wasn’t perfect and he was sure he probably missed some calls but he did his dead level best to make sure that he wouldn’t miss many. And as he also would tell you that there was only person to walk this earth that was perfect.

But it wasn’t then and I’m sure now not a well run organization. What I mean; that these officials made very little, had to travel all over the state, often not getting home until very late at night, most had families and all did it for the love of the game and kids. But as with any organization you got some less desirables that make all the rest look bad.
