Lots of great places for drinks all over downtown
Though Lips Lounge is sadly gone

Bound Brook is coming along nicely on Main Street
I always wondered why they didn't try to do it up like Somerville, but they're making progress

Still like Raritan the best though
Small, gritty, lot of Italians

Good friends of mine live in Branchburg and yes Somerville H.S. is at least 2/3, maybe 3/4 Branchburg kids. As far as living in Somervile itself there some really nice neighborhoods on the north side closerto Bridgewater border, just avoid being too close to Peters Brook that can flood. The newer condos/apts downtown near the train station look perfect for the GenZ'rs. No better place for St Patty's parade than Somerville, great crowds and hopping bars always.

Jaydog….very true about Raritan. For food, Esposito and Uncle Vinnies two of our favorites anywhere.

Love both, especially Uncle Vinny's
Used to always get the scallops over salad w/oil and vinegar

Also love "people watching" while in there
Definitely an interesting scene to say the least

Always wondered why they didn't buy the Chinese place next door
They could certainly use the room and I've never seen that place packed

Demographics wise i presume?
the italians and old school slovaks are withering away...the luxury apartments are a pointless experiment, the only retail shopping center is vacant for almost a decade, the churches which adorn main street are bleeeding parishoners

Somerville provides 50% of the students for the high school. The athletic facilities are probably the best in the state. I raised over $2 million privately to build 3 synthetic turf fields for a practice football field and 2 others for soccer, lacrosse and field hockey. Built new stadium lights, snack shack and home side bleachers. Just helped pass the $44 million referendum for school upgrades in high school and elementary schools. Mayor G is an incredible person and the town is jumping. I have seen the transformation in my last 84 years so I guess I am biased.

Haven't been to Uncle Vinnie's in a while, but it was the go-to place for political meetings/chats. And of course, the food was awesome.

Social in Somerville was also a big part of the county political scene.

You're nuts! It's a great place to live with tons of nice areas...I'm in the "country" off Fresh Ponds Rd. 1 acre, beautiful and quite. GREAT high school, one of the best in the state, and that means alot...
Fresh Ponds Road? Very sorry to hear. That road was once quiet. Now essentially a mini-freeway.

Also, SBHS is 36th in NJ. Good, but not great. Overcrowding is a big issue.

Impressive faculties for football for sure. Basketball gym is sadly undersized, there isn't even a side court.

Are they doing a better job keeping the local kids home?
In the 90's, Immaculata used to raid them (along with every other Skyland Conference school)

I'd imagine now w/Charter public Schools essentially becoming a thing, real good athletes could opt for Plainfield or Bound Book
Or Lata, St. Joes, Pingry, Delby, etc. for other sports

My wife and I bought our first house in KP back in 1991 for $125K, great little neighborhood on Newman Rd. You have to admit the new housing units popping up all over the place the last 20 years are a bit much. Don't miss all that traffic
I lived in KP in the 60s and again in the mid 80s. Was a nice place to raise kids then.

Great atmosphere for Friday night games. Band has always been one of the tops in the state, and when the football team started being good again around 2016 Fridays are rocking. Although I have not been to a game last year or two.

I don’t know how they do it, but the guys at Vinnies sear scallops like none other.

When visiting my cousins in late 70’s I used to walk with my uncle to the Gateway Bar and sit while my uncle had a Ballentine Ale or two. Years later after they moved away it was refurbished into a new place, can’t remember what it was called, and then it became Social. I still have not been back in since it was the old Gateway.

My Mom Betty was 54 and Dad John 51 played football and track. We have a customer Uge who is around that time!

I know the name Pete Vitelli because I think my mom and him were friends and yes he used to call her to go reunions!

Anyone know what the story is with the opening of that new bar called "Sustain" in the old TD Bank on the corner?

From what I've read online it's supposed to be a vegan jazz bar, but the building has been vacant and seemingly untouched for months.
