OT: Snowstorm Friday

And finally, as of 7:15 am, when the snow had been reduced to flurries, I got a final measurement of 5.75", which outperformed nearly every prediction out there. Just finished shoveling and then a long JebWalk and finally had to make a snow angel - snow was fairly light and fluffy, but with just enough moisture to make decent snowballs.
Thought the various forecasts did well - I'm sure there were some misses, but no significant busts I've seen. Not worth pasting the full list yet, IMO, as it's very preliminary, but it looks like a fairly uniform 4-6" in most of SNJ/CNJ/NNJ, except for Sussex/Warren/Morris, which were more like 2-4", as expected, and most of E PA was in the 3-5" range, except the Poconos/Lehigh Valley, which were more like 2-3". NYC/LI/CT were more like 5-8" with the winner looking like LGA Airport at 8.4" (still snowing on LI /CT though).

It was beautiful at 3am. The glow from the street lights as the flakes fell. I didn’t have the energy to get bundled and go out at that time though.
yep, here too. All shoveled already, i'd say about 2 inches but thats a guess, no ruler

Definitely bigger totals N/E, but that's a bad map by the NWS, as there are tons of reports in Mercer, Somerset, Monmouth and Middlesex (and most of SNJ) of 3-5" with some 6" spots.Definitely seems to be the case. Bigger totals north and east.
Left my house in Robbinsville at 6:20am. Probably 4 inches on the ground at that point and snowing hard
Local roads, as expected, not plowed.
Rt. 130S not plowed
Rt. 195E not plowed...people driving at 20mph with hazard lights on
Turnpike S, car side, not plowed. I was the only car between exit 7a & exit 6. I thought perhaps I had somehow missed the "car side closed" signs. Truck side being plowed and lots of trucks on it because 295 was closed to commercial trucks
At times I was driving straddling the lane markers because that's the area that was cleanest. Never drove faster than 45mph all the way to exit 4
Mt. Laurel roads amazingly clean, but it seems that they got very little snow. Maybe 3 inches

An igloo would be cool - I did build a crappy one in Jan-96, when we got 28" of snow, as my then 2-year old son got a big kick out of it. It was gorgeous - just posted a few pics...

Best thing that happened was having the snow before rush hour, so people just generally made the decision to stay home, which meant it wasn't bad for folks who actually had to get to work, like yourself. The worst is almost always when the snow starts after people are at work and then all leave at the same time (like Nov-2018).
FYI, Mt. Laurel reported 5", but there's probably been at least 1" of compaction...
I don't know if I would characterize the roads as "not bad" for Mrs. Screw at that time.
there was no sign. it was just weird that for a long stretch on the TP I was the only vehicle on the car side.
Yeah, I get that. I was just addressing your previously stated concern over the possibility that you "missed a sign". It's no worries if you do.

I was joking. Union county. But metuchen is a nice town . Friend of mine from Edison always said Edison didn’t need a downtown because they had metuchen.
I always pay the revenuers what's due. Otherwise, I'd be fightin' the law and the... law would win.
Perfect snowstorm:
-kids have remote learning because of the snow
-3-4 fluffy inches that I can hit with my electric blower and not with my gas monster blower
-gives us the impetus to hit crappy poconos gor skiing tomorrow.

I just got done digging out in Howell, no way we got 2.8" like that map says for Freehold. For 2.8" my *** isn't even getting out of bed. Instead, I did 3 hrs. of shoveling and front loader work with my *** now in front of the wood stove clinging to any warmth.

Wow, I would not have expected it all to melt that fast - so sorry for your loss...

The amount of digging out I do every snowstorm for these animals, I'm leaning towards crazy. I used to worry about digging up the pasture I grew like it was a newborn child, now I don't give two sh*ts about what I rip up with the front loader.Hey now. Let's not rush to conclusions. With some injuries keeping me from playing soccer, up until this week, shoveling snow has been the only exercise I've gotten in awhile. So I'm not complaining.
Actually, I have been doing very frequent sets of one-pint Ben & Jerry's curls. But oddly, those seem to not be helping me with my overall fitness. I have a checkup next week and my doc is not only going to yell at me, she's gonna slap me around some too this time.
Some people pay extra for that kind of thing, so if it's included in your copay.......
