It's the offseason, so why not discuss sleep schedules?

I've been on an evening shift for the last 7 years and for the first time I am getting up at 830 for my new shift.

Just curious, what are your sleep schedules and how does that affect how you live life/watch sports?

I get to the office around 5:30am most days, so I'm an early to bed, early to rise person for that purpose and I hate having that schedule disrupted on the weekend. It is not conducive to live sports consumption, and often I will not watch until a replay is posted a few days later if it's a night game.

That probably makes me a bad fan. :)

I think I will probably watch all games except for the night games on the West Coast. I don't think I will be missing much for the most part.;)

When I would usually wake up around 1230-1300, I would debate whether I should get up for the first half of 1100 Nebraska games. Nothing worse than getting up tired to catch the first half and Nebraska stink it up. I hated early morning games, now I will welcome them.

8pm-4am, sometimes 9pm-5am

I like my early morning alone time, for the same reasons as I liked late hours as a kid. When everyone else is asleep, you can do work or whatever uninterrupted.

like saluno22, I do this regardless what day of the week it is. Night games, are difficult to stay up for, sometimes I don't make it all the way through.

I don't have any set hours for work so I generally go to bed around midnight or 1230 and get up between six and eight

Don't really watch much sports outside of husker football these days

I get up very early (around 4:45) and go to work very early, so it's a struggle to stay awake past 10:00 pm. Luckily I live in the Mountain Time Zone which is great for watching most sports in prime time. Might miss a little bit at the start, but can make it to the end of most games.

I work 3 different shifts. 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, and 11pm-7am. Not much consistency, sometimes I'll work all 3 in one week, even worked each over the course of 3 days a couple times.

When I work 7-3, I usually try to be in bed before 10 and up by 6. Working 3-11, I usually stay up a bit later and my wife gets me up around 6:30ish to help get our son ready, then I go back to bed for a few hours. Working 11-7, I try to go the bed as soon as I get home and be up around 4 or before depending on how I sleep.

The worst part is coming off midnights, I usually just short myself on sleep (3-4 hours) my first day off, then I can get back in a normal rhythm afterward.

Not surprisingly, after I get vested and finish my 10 years in for student loan forgiveness, I'll be looking for something a little more regular.

Go to sleep anywhere from 10:30-11:30pm.
Alarm set for 5:55am M-Sat, 6:30 on Sunday.

I work 7:30am until 6-10pm depending on the time of year, 6 or 7 days a week, so pretty set sleeping schedule.

Hard to watch sports because of the amount of work, but Husker Saturdays are the exception. Work until the game starts, go home and watch the game, then go back to work.

If I am in the middle of harvest and can't go home, then I just listen on the radio. I usually get to watch Nebrasketball on my phone in the evenings.

Can't imagine working night shifts and trying to still be able to watch sports. That would be tough. Those people must hope all Husker football games are night games.

I work 730 to 815 and I switch from overnights to days every 4 weeks. I get a 3 day weekend off every other weekend. I have average working 60 hours a week most of my life

Outside of watching husker football I really don't consistently watch any other sports. Thank goodness for my phone which is what I use to follow events.

I work for the railroad so sleep schedules don’t exist at times. Two weeks ago I was waking up at 0330. Last week 0430. This week I don’t work until 1300. Next week I’ll start work late afternoon.

I used to get up at 4:30am every day, no alarm. Was in bed by 9 at the latest. At office by 7:00am. That was disrupted for various reasons, mostly a change in jobs.

This reminds me of Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 song. I’m always asking myself, “why is she complaining about that schedule?”

Go to bed on average around 1:00 to 2:00 A.M., and get up at 6:00. I feel tired during the day, but hate having to sleep.

People always talk about getting close to 8:00 hours, but I just cant sleep that long. I bet I have gotten a full 8:00 hours very few times in my life. If I get up after seven, and especially anywhere near 8:00 I experience feeling guilty of being slothful. I can thank my Dad for that.

never been a sleeper...even as a teenager.....I go to bed at 9:30 or 10 and get up at 2:45am without an alarm clock.. Weekends I do try to stay in bed until at least 5:00am ....sometimes I make it but mostly I don't.

I think it really boils down to how much sleep you get your body trained to do.

Agree. I work 6a - 6p and rarely get 7 hours max. 6 hours good sleep is optional for me.

I always hated having roommates in college that were sleepers. I would be up by 7am and they would sleep in for another 5 hours. Drove me crazy.

Evening shift was the worst for me during the rotation.. 42 hour swing sucks.. I would get home at 11 pm, eat watch tv and sleep by 12:30.. wake up at 9, try to squeeze life into 3.5 hours and head back to work...

I worked rotating shifts right after HS and college. First full time job. 7-3 one week. 3-11 next. 11 pm -7 am next. Brutal. Didn't realize at the time how bad it is to rotate your sleep weekly only being 21. No way I would wanna do it now.

My natural energy schedule is napping early-AM and sleeping daytime. Nap 2-5AM, sleep 12-5PM. However, I'll sleep any hour of day or night in a hot minute. I hate living in a world dominated by "morning people". :(

Ive worked overnights for last 7 years. Always had a part time job as well. So i would usually sleep from 0900 to about 1130. Then from about 1930 to 2200. Never have really required lots of sleep. I am starting a new job tomorrow working 0600 to 1430. I guess I will see how important sleep is real soon..

It's been almost 2 weeks since I switched and the first days are rough, even with the sleep. Gotta retrain the brain to be awake during those hours.

I go to bed between 11:00 pm - 1:30am. During the week I wake up to Dan Patrick that is on my time between 6am-9am. I really only get up really early to play. Golf in the warm months. My brother and I try to be the first ones on. If we are still playing after 3 hours one of us is having a bad round. In the fall those 11:00 am games having me running. I like to take a shower and then make a quick trip to our farmers market that opens up at 8 am. That way I can be back home to put the Husker flag out and get breakfast in before kick-off at 9am. I love Pacific time. Get to see all the games and even the late games are over before 11:00 pm. I use to get up early to upland bird hunt, but I’ve found over the years that it isn’t really necessary when I am just hunting quail or chukar. If I hunt pheasants I still like to get up early. In the winter I get up by 7am because I want to be one of the first 20 or so people loading up on chair-lift when it starts at 9am. So that means I have to be in line around 8:35 am. It’s a 25 minute drive up the hill from home. Getting there early also has an added advantage of getting a parking place close to the locker room. I don’t care where you ski it pays to be first on the hill. Usually you will get the best snow, the best conditions and more runs before the tourist start clogging up the hill.

Have any of you guys who are either tired during the day or can’t sleep ever participated in a sleep study? I did about 9 years ago. I’ve been using a CPAP ever since then. I get so much better rested sleep now
