If you want a pseudo-sports bent on this he and his money played a big part in the reason why the gambling industry has struggled to move forward in the US. After the UIGEA, which effectively shut down the ability of US citizens to play online poker against the rest of the world and in between states, there was a lot of talk about rewriting laws to rewrite US and modernize the Wire Act and other US gambling laws. He was opposed to it which is why it has now become a states rights issue handled individually by states. While that is not all bad, it limits the liquidity and prize pools.
