I used peddle.com back in 2017. Just answer a few questions about your car and they give you a quote. If you accept they will come pick it up and hand you a check. I did it with a car that cost more than it was worth to fix and actually got a decent offer.

You just want to be rid of it or get all you can?

just getting rid of it for a few hundred bucks or so can be accomplished by calling some shade tree mechanic and telling them about it. Something along the line of “bring a trailer and 400 bucks and it’s yours”.

Getting a retailish value, taking consideration of its faults for pricing sake, will result in you entertaining a load of tire kickers.

In 2012, I sold my used car to Carmax.

I just drove up (outta the blue, no appointment) and told them I'd like to sell my used car (i.e., my wife's 2000 Toyota Camry) to them.

This car looked (very) used and had around 110k miles on it. Also, the engine had started to run a little rough.

Carmax told me to have a seat and they'd look at it.

As I waited, I thought about my possibility of getting any sort of offer at all. I would have gladly taken $500 for that car.

When the guy walked up, I was prepared for him to say, "Get that POS outta my sight."

Instead, he said they'd give me $3500 for the car. I pretended to seriously contemplate the offer while trying to conceal my happiness. After a few seconds, I accepted the offer. They cut me a check right on the spot, and I was outta there in no more than 2 hours after I arrived.

Selling my used car to Carmax was SUPER EASY, and the offer was MORE than I expected. Worked out great for me. However, please recognize this was 9 years ago . . . things may now be different.

I sold my 5 year old SUV to a dealer a few weeks ago. It had 60k miles and I got damn near what I paid for it brand new.

Toyota's are something. I sold a 2005 Highlander with 250K on it (I believe this was in 2013) to a dealer who happen to see my "for sale" sign on it. He paid my high asking price and after we completed the deal I asked how in the hell he was going to make any money at that price. He said he had a standing order for them to ship to Indonesia where the broker doubled his money on whole boat loads of used Toyotas at a time. I figure it's still cruising around over there somewhere with a 50 cal mounted on top of it.

Could be worth getting it cranked. "Has some issues" covers a lotta ground, but I bet if you can get that joker running you can get 3-4 grand minimum at a dealer these days.

Know it's not the point of your story, but Indonesia is really safe. Their homicide rate is one of the lowest on earth, at about 0.4 per 100,000.

I used Carvio and got a fair deal in a truck that didn't run. Picked it up out my driveway no questions asked.

It’s an absolute nightmare right now if you’re looking for anything used, regardless of year and miles. We’ve been looking and there is nothing out there. If you find something it’s marked several thousand over what it normally would be and you have about 2 days to get it before it’s gone.

Cars and real estate going through an interesting bubble right now. I’ve heard of people in Texas putting their house on the marker, having several offers the first day, and selling it for 20-30% more than their asking price within 48 hours of listing. This sounds great, until you try to find your next house and become one of the aforementioned bidders. I’ve heard of families renting apartments for several months looking for houses and then having rent doubled on them once the lease runs up cause of market conditions.

I also sold a used car for MORE than I bought it brand new. Bought in October 2020, sold for profit in April 2021.

Maybe so, but I doubt it (based upon the way the engine was running). But who knows? It may have only needed a simple fix.

Concerning any sort of negotiation with Carmax, I don't think Carmax does that.

The offer was a take-it or leave-it offer.

Carmax was only looking for a "yes" or "no" from me.

Ha, I'm just kidding. I know what you mean about a car like that. We traded in my wife's 10 year old Altima that she'd gotten new as her high school graduation gift. It had been in 4 or 5 wrecks, all kind of crap that didn't work. Only had a little over 100k miles but had been run to death. Dealer looked it over for maybe 20 seconds, didn't ask me any questions, drove it 1/2 mile down the road & turned around. Offered me about $3500 for it and I was like - hell yeah. I would have felt bad selling that piece of crap to someone other than a car dealer.

But I have seriously seen a lot of those Camrys with over 300k miles.
